The Baylor board is confident, but respectful. "I think I would have definitely rathered [sic] to be playing Tennessee." sicem365.com/forums/4/topics/25540And it seems that they remember the jacket toss, too.

A Vol fan chimed in. Talked about OSU playing hard, being better than a 6 seed, well coached, illegal picks, hooking, Guards using forearms, and Marie flopping. My interpretation is that he(?) said we play a little dirty.

My interpretation is that he(?) said we play a little dirty. That’s funny. We play hard, but the PAC 12 has some people who DO play dirty. There is a difference between the two. Like someone said earlier, I’m glad that we played physical teams throughout the year in our conference. On the national stage, if people can get in your kitchen mentally by roughing you up, you’re toast.

Yeah, the contrast between the Vol fan's description and the opinions of the UConn board (who were incredulous that Mercedes had just 1 foul, despite Marie going to the floor at least three times - "Gravity just must be stronger right around Marie") says a lot.
I do wonder if there are regional differences in the propensity to call certain fouls. Obviously there are differences among individual refs, but are there more general biases by conference or region?

I actually responded to that fan on the Baylor site. I remarked on the general bias and thin skinned nature of vol fans and that fans probable motivation for his post. I mean who goes to another site for their first time purely to bad mouth a team you just played.
Lotrader made an excellent post in response as well. Far better than mine, but I thought I should add my two cents since I had posted there before and that might carry some weight.

Speaking of the Baylor site, one person wrote: "I did watch the Tennessee Oregon State game. The Vols should go after the Oregon State coach. Great team. Well coached. We know that. Scary what he could do with AA talent on that Tennessee team." Obviously this person doesn't know that SR is an OSU guy through and through and would never take the job at Tennessee! Here is the Baylor thread on Oregon State: sicem365.com/forums/4/topics/25590

Dennis is from western Washington and went to Montana State University (and jumped all over the place to coach). Scott is from western Oregon, grew up with OSU and graduated from OSU. He just signed another contract extension too.

I don't know Scott Rueck personally, have never met him, so everything I say is speculative....
That said, some coaches move to be closer to family. I think SR's family is local. Some coaches move to better their salary situation. The amount of money SR makes is plenty in the Corvallis area. Some coaches feel the lure of the pro ranks. SR is a teacher and molder of young players, not a baby sitter of spoiled prima donnas (exaggeration, but you get the point). Some coaches can walk away from a contract/extension they signed without the slightest remorse, others don't sign those things lightly. Key - SR has young children going through the school system. Doubt he would disrupt them given he can achieve a lot of his dreams right here, right now.
I live in Corvallis, and am able to make near Bay-Area wages here. The real estate advantage, the stability my kids have had in the school system, the fact that they can participate in numerous activities just because everything is 5 minutes away, the fact there is world class activities going on here due to OSU makes it hard for me to contemplate a move - despite the fact that I have had to set aside some promotional and pay-related opportunities as a result.
Conclusion - Based on observation and personal experience, I would be very, very surprised if SR left OSU before his youngest kid graduates high school.

I love what Rueck said when he took the job, he doesn't want to use OSU to get to a top program, he wants to make OSU the top program.
He's been doing a pretty good job of it so far.

When he also too the job, he also said "You aren't going to like the kids we recruit, you're going to love them". Frankly, I've appreciated that more about the program than the winning, and they have been directly related. These ladies have embraced being roll models, and that's clearly an expectation Rueck has of his players. His program is a refreshing break from all the garbage that goes on in college sports.

AA talent? Well, Marie is top 15 player in the nation, and we have a lot of youth who are still growing into their positions - they can denigrate all they want, but OSU throws more talent at people than 95% of the other programs in the nation.
