I remember in the disastrous ending to the Lavonda era and the beginning of the Rueck era there were four top-notch girls high school basketball players in Oregon: Russell, Nared, Johnson, and one other whose name escapes me (and I'm too lazy to look it up)
They spurned the Beavers (and the Ducks) to play at national powers. At the time, I was saying on the old Pure Orange boards that a national championship team was in Oregon, and if somehow Rueck could get them that OSU could be that national powerhouse.
Rueck didn't need'em. That said, I wish those girls the best moving forward in their careers. But, it makes this victory ever the more sweeter.
Now, beat Baylor/Michigan!!

Jaime Nared of Tennessee is the sister of Jackie Nared, who joined the duck women's basketball staff this year. Adds a little more sweetness to this win.....

Ya, but Portland averages 99 days per year with measurable rainfall (over 1/100 inch), while Knoxville only averages 87. I mean, 1 extra day per month. I think the reality is, Portland gets basically NO rain from mid July through mid September, so those 99 days of rain get crammed into the other 10 months of the year. Tennessee averages at least 3 inches of rain in every single month of the year, while Portland averages less than 3 inches of rain from April-September. That said, it rarely ever rains HARD in Oregon compared to how hard it rains most places in the Eastern Time Zone. If you compared the number of hours of rainfall in Oregon (Willamette Valley) vs Tennessee, I'd bet the ratio for Oregon would look a lot worse than 99 to 87. But, to take it one step further - she plays BASKETBALL - you spend ALL of your basketball time inside. Oregon State baseball players don't seem to have a problem with the weather, that affects their game more than any other sport. SaveSave

Ah yes, Reynolds was the one I couldn't recall. Johnson went to Stanford. Westbrook came along later.
