Gardena Serra defeats Ribet 58 - 46.... Interestingly, the LA Times writes that Ribet's star player had 4 fouls called against her in the 1st quarter - but they were not referring to AA rather, to a 6'4" forward who also plays on Spain's U-18 team (sorry, lost her name).
GO BEAVS !!
I'll be glad when Coach gets AA to Corvallis. She needs good coaching. As near as I can tell, she did not get it at Ribet Academy !!

Her name is Lola Pendande, and yeah, they needed her in, couch left her in after getting her 3rd foul and she quickly got a 4th ! AA did well, but I agree that it felt like she was on her own all season, no plan to use her skills.

This last year seems like wasted time for AA on the court but off the court I can't imagine being anywhere as bad as Jersey was.
In just a few more months and she and PM will be sharing a dorm room, I bet it will make that room seem awfully small with 6'9" and 6'7" in it. Give Macy a couple months to start their bulking up program. Not sure who the team will vote as summer leaders, most likely it will be KtMac and possibly Mik. They will make sure that the towers will get off to a great start.

That was my perspective on AA time with Ribet as well. Of all the programs in California she could have picked why it was Ribet is a mystery. Perhaps it had to do with logistics- family to live with etc, But all in all it was still better than PM situation. Faces little competition at all.
Oh and those were the D1 Southern Region finals. The state finals will be played between the Northern and Southern region winners. The top teams in both regions end up in the Open playoffs and the next level plays for the DI championship. They re-adjusted everything around this year. The top teams in the state ( # 1 and 4 in the Nation ) already got knocked off in the Northern regionals. There are a lot of good teams in California with most of them in the North this year.

I'm sure she chose Ribet for social/academic reasons. Ribet specializes in educating the children of Latin-American ex-pats, so she gets to go to school with well-off South Americans and she has teachers who know where Paraguay is on the map. And they offer scholarships, which I'm sure she benefited from.
As fans, all we see is "six-foot-nine". But SR and AA also have to think about the academic side, too. We need her to be eligible. And AA didn't come to America to play in the WNBA - she came to get an American education so she can help herself and her family in the long term.

As I understand from an article sometime back, the sham program being run in New Jersey had also put AA in a situation where another year there and she would have been deported - she HAD to make a change in school/program in order for her student visa to remain valid. Meeting PM and being able to move to Ribet was very fortunate.
Note the big that signed with Vandy out of the Patterson program that is stuck in Africa and hasn't played a minute - one would think Vandy has the resources to attack the immigration issues, but it hasn't helped.
Go Beavers!

From what I understand New Jersey has no High School Athletic governing body to set standards and control eligibility. There are plenty of programs there taking advantage of that to the detriment of student athletes they recruit.
