With Stanford moving up to No. 3 in the polls, I took a quick peek at their record YTD. They are 14-2 with Series sweeps over CS-Fullerton, Rice (4 games), a solo win over Cal-Davis and 3 of 4 over Michigan and Texas. In the Texas series played in Austin, the Cardinal scored 33 runs after making some batting order changes.
The pre-season book on Stanford was a deep pitching staff and offensive production a question mark. Their team BA is only .250 but they have been very efficient at not leaving runners on base. Their defense has been solid and the pitching has held true to form with a team ERA of 2.33 and holding opponents to a .201 BA.
Stanford has seven pitchers that have logged about 14 innings each, so they have pitched more than just a set starting rotation. Two of their front liners, Bubic and Beck are expected to be early round selections in the June draft. I look forward to a good race in the PAC-12 North this spring. It could be Stanford is the one that challenges us for the title this season.

I wish that he would have come to Corvallis, but never begrudge kids choosing Stanford. I met him once very briefly last spring, and he seemed like a nice kid. I knew at that point he had earned himself a spot on the Cardinal baseball team, and this mention of Stanford was the first time I remembered to check and see how he was faring. Perhaps switching from the green & yellow of West Linn to the Orange & Black would have been too much for him? Coming to OSU as a position player for the 17-18 school year wasn't going to be the fastest track to playing time, either.

Yep, good pitching beats good hitting. Stanford in a series will be very tough!!
The Beavs have a better offense... but will be hard put to score against the Trees.
p.s.... just make the playoffs - don't worry about being ranked #1!
