For the sixth time in program history, Oregon State is 15-1. The Beavers were 16-0 in 1951 and 1962.
The Beavers have gone 15-1 to start the season the past two years, the first time that that has happened since 1959-1960.
At this time last year, Oregon State was 14-1. (The first 2017 Portland game was rained out and never rescheduled.) The Beavers would not lose again for more than a month, starting 28-1, an Oregon State record.
If Oregon State can sweep California, 2018 Oregon State will tie the all-time 19-game start to a season at 18-1. Oregon State started 18-1 in 1951, 1962, 2013, and 2017.
The 1951 and 1962 Oregon State Beavers each lost to the "South" Champion on the road. In 1951, Oregon State outscored USC but lost two-games-to-one. USC finished third at the College World Series, losing by one run in the semifinal. In 1962, Santa Clara beat Oregon State in Santa Clara. Santa Clara finished second at the College World Series, losing the Championship Game by one to Michigan in 15 innings. In 2013 and 2017, Oregon State lost to the eventual College World Series runner-up in the "Final Four," Mississippi State in 2013 and LSU in 2017.
Oregon State's 16- and 19-game-starts in College World Series years:
1952: 13-3 14-5 2005: 13-3 16-3 2006: 11-5 12-7 (Dropped the Pac-10 opening series to USC 2-1.) 2007: 13-3 16-3 2013: 15-1 18-1 2017: 15-1 18-1 (Swept the Pac-12 opening series against Arizona State and began the sweep of Arizona.)
The Beavers have a three game winning streak against California but were swept their last visit to Berkeley in 2016. Oregon State has not won in Berkeley since Jace Fry threw a one-hit complete-game shutout on May 4, 2014.

Oregon State started 18-1 in 1951, 1962, 2013, and 2017. The Beavers have gone 18-1 to start the season the past two years, the first time that that has ever happened. At this time last year, Oregon State was 17-1. (The first 2017 Portland game was rained out and never rescheduled.) The Beavers would not lose again for more than three weeks, starting 28-1, an Oregon State record. Oregon State has only gone 21-1 twice, in 1962 and 2017. The Beavers would match that, if they can sweep the Huskies. Oregon State's 19- and 22-game-starts in College World Series years: 1952: 14-5 17-5 (Beat Idaho and swept Washington in a two-game series in Corvallis.) 2005: 16-3 18-4 2006: 12-7 15-7 2007: 16-3 19-3 2013: 18-1 20-2 (Completed a sweep of Arizona in Tucson and split the first two games in the Pac-12 home opener against Arizona State.) 2017: 18-1 21-1 (Completed the sweep of Arizona in the Pac-12 home opener and beat St. Mary's over Spring Break.) The Beavers have a two-game winning streak against Washington but are on a one-game home losing streak to the Huskies. The loss to Washington in 2016 ultimately allowed Washington to beat out Oregon State for a spot in the NCAA Tournament. No one is talking about it yet, but this is Washington's first visit to Corvallis, since Lindsay Meggs put Washington in the Tournament and kept Oregon State out in 2016. Let's go out there and give Meggs a proper welcome back to Corvallis!

The Beavers also started 20-2 in 2013. Oregon State started 21-1 in 1962 and 2017. Oregon State's best 25-game start was in 2017, 24-1. Oregon State's second-best start was in 1962, 23-2.
