Looks like Nall improved a few numbers. He nudged his 40 time down to 4.53 which is approaching that eyebrow raising territory. He is definitely doing what he can to get drafted. Looks like several teams were talking to him at pro day, and he had a few talking to him at the combine. OSU didn't provide any results, so any numbers were from media hanging around. Some of our DL participants had some pretty good bench press numbers it appears.

I saw there was a bunch of former players in town too. Some participating trying to get another look from the NFL, some just hanging out cheering on their bros. I got to meet a couple of them by happenstance and had an interesting observation...
In our mind's eyes a lot of these guys are bigger than life, both figuratively and literally (physically), but then you meet them in person and they are just regular folks doing regular things. Hanging out, wondering where their lives are going, what is coming next, trying to have a good time, etc. And in terms of sheer size I was especially taken with Peko. He is NOT that big a dude. He is listed at 6' 1" and 305#, both are very generous... And on the other side, Titus Failauga looked way BIGGER than his listed 6'3" 230. And yet Peko is on a NFL team and Titus has never gotten a sniff, and wasn't all that successful in college.
All that to say, it just really emphasises the point that pure size is an important, but ultimately very very small part of scouting a football player. I used to assume that measurables were 50% of the equation at least, innate skill being the other 50% and "intangibles" just being a nice phrase and buzz word to talk about... I may have to adjust my thinking. Measurables getting less weight, "skill" getting the same and intangibles getting a much bigger thumb on the scale that I previously figured.
BTW, I am sure that this makes the way we scout recruits and the stars ascribed even MORE dubious than we all thought. It is hard enough to measure the skilland size of a player based on a few grainy minutes of video and intangibles are basically ignored altogether.
