Reading about anxiety attacks makes me anxious. that's so funny. I have anxiety issues but always appreciate good wit and not surprised that came from you squonk. And speaking of anxiety, I blame beaver basketball losses in March madness for some of my mental health deficiances.

Thanks for linking. My oldest suffers from pretty severe depression and anxiety - it can be rough (on both of us!). Especially with him in college hours away from home. I'm really glad we're seeing more and more people open up about it - helps remove that stigma and makes him feel like he's not alone in this world. Really just in the past year he's finally become open and able to talk about it head on. He used to cope/hide it via drugs (you name it, he did it), but has now been sober going on ~6 months. Thought kids were supposed to be f'ing easier once they left the house dammit.

Pretty sure kids and parents aren't "easier" as we grow older! But, it's what we do...

He's doing alright, just taking it day by day, week by week, learning what works, what doesn't work. Been a roller-coaster of a freshman year, that's for sure! On top of the mental health battles, assumed he was going to redshirt during wrestling season, had RS pulled not long after he arrived on campus, found himself in the starting line up for the first month of the season, then found himself with back pain/numbness in his leg, ended up getting an MRI, found himself out of action with a herniated disc & compression fracture. never a dull moment in these parts! lol.

Frosh year is eye opening enough without all that! A lot on his plate. More power to him! Now tell him to stay away from "girl friend" connections... Will only complicate it... lol 😁

Hang tough, Ocho. Your love, support and strength (sometimes that’s tough) will help sustain him. It’s a much bigger issue than most people realize. I’m 60. Mental health was something nobody wanted to talk about. There was a definite stigma attached to it, and it scared people to the point of burying their heads in sand. “Real men didn’t suffer with mental health issues....”. Ridiculously wrong, of course, but that mentality kept tens of thousands (more) from seeking help. I never understood WHY we haven’t/don’t treat anxiety, depression, etc. the way we treat other medical issues. It’s 2018, and we STILL don’t. Sorry, I rambled. Take care.

Maybe the fact his dad was a major asshole has something to do with it.... I know, or at least assume, that you are joking, but a lot of people actually say things like that in a serious vein and have no sense of mental health issues, at all.
Mental health is the real thing. Since it is not always as obvious as a lot of physical health symptoms, such as a broken leg, people don't understand that it's not just a matter of "improving your attitude" or "trying a little harder." Asking why people with mental health issues why they can't just adjust is like asking something with a broken leg why they can't just run.
Good for Kevin Love and his willingness to tackle what we likely be a lifetime struggle.

My family has had it's share of mental health issues and I firmly believe it is a under treated and misunderstood problem in our society. I in no way was trying to demean that. I was only pointing out that his father was a MLA in my opinion and it wouldn't surprise me if that was part of Kevin's historical picture. Sorry if I offended anyone other than Stan Love himself for I stand by my opinion of him. Then again a lot of people probably think I'm an asshole too.....

Funny thing is...I was later thinking about the issue and realized that if you were NOT joking, the notion that Kevin Love suffers from mental health issues as a result of his father's behavior may not be inaccurate...A lot of abused children actually suffer from PTSD and it haunts them for the rest of their lives. So: Yes, Stan Love, if he was half the a-hole to Kevin that he was on the basketball court, could have inflicted a mental stress on Kevin that could affect him for the rest of his life.

My wife (instructional aid for twenty years), my youngest son (teacher of at risk youth), and eldest son (taught for thirteen years and now a principal), will all tell you there are a shocking number of children .......little kids......who have been diagnosed with PTSD. It’s a friggin disgrace how many. Emotionally, mentally and socially they are behind the eight ball from an early age. We need to figure out HOW to stop it (besides shooting their offenders), and how to treat the victims.

Kevin Love's family are related to the Beach Boys, right? We know the Wilson/Love family of the Beach Boys also has a history of abusive relationships and mental health issues, so it's not a stretch to think it might reach KL.
