It irks me whenever I hear the "Go Beavs, Go Dutch" commercial. Why not go with Allann Bros.? Maybe they don't want to support the Beavs, but in my opinion, we need to build our brand and purify our message. Hearing "Go Dutch" several times a game is certainly not building the brand or clarifying our message.
Does it hit anyone else's ear like it does mine...the thing that irks the most is that it seems intentional by Dutch Bros. But maybe that's just how it sounds to me.

So when Ron says Go Dutch are you hearing Go *ucks?
Really doesn't bother me. Good marketing on Dutch Bros coffee. Dutch Bros has bigger reach than Allann Bros, which to me gives broader appeal across the State.
* I don't drink Dutch Bros coffee if there is something else available.

yep, that's how it sounds....nobody ever refers to them as "Dutch". I have no problem if they use it elsewhere, but at a Beaver event, it just seems like a slap in the face.

Dutch Bros. seems like a great partner for OSU - always bring their mobile truck to Portland OSUAA events, giveaways at Reser for the students, etc. Unfortunate that their name is similar to that of the enemy, but to suggest that the company is doing something nefarious is a bit of a stretch.

Do you mean to say that I'm the only one upon whose ear "Go Dutch" clangs? Do you think an ad man could write it and say it without catching the sound? Wouldn't "Go Dutch Bros" work as well? Even if intentional, I wouldn't call it "nefarious", more like an ongoing prank; but not one in which we should willingly participate.
My only personal recourse is to never buy Dutch; and I so abstain.

You do realize that Dutch Brothers is an Oregon company started here in Grants Pass by the Boersma brothers, who's name happens to be Dutch. I know the brothers because their kids played sports with my boys at North Valley High School. Tragically Dane had ALS and has passed away. Great success story for some local boys who made good. They came from a dairy family and when it was time to look at taking over the family business they went a different direction. The present business model is different from the original of just selling coffee beans. They set up a kiosk near the railroad tracks to expose their coffee beans through selling some coffee to local patrons, and the rest is history.

I have no objection to the business or the founders/owners. My objection is to hearing "Go Dutch" at every OSU sporting event and on every broadcast. Their In-state roots makes it seem very unlikely that they are unaware of the unfortunate phonetics. Hey, if I had a company named "Beefs Bros" and I could get hole to say "Go Ducks, Go Beefs" at every hole event, I'd do it....and laugh at the dumb ducks for letting me. This is not a criticism of Dutch Bros for doing it, but of OSU for allowing it.

Thanks Giles for your explanation. I apologize as I thought there was some consternation about Dutch Brothers. It is nice to see local Oregonians who have a dream and work hard to be a success. I have never heard the ad you refer to so will accept your opinion as I value much of what you bring to the board. GO BEAVS

The first time I heard it I was astonished, until I realized it was a Dutch Bros commercial - it sounds like what it sounds like - no stretching needed; no "connection" implied.

I like to hear about anyone who starts an enterprise and makes it successful. Related to the Dutch Bros. story; my best friend from high school now runs in pretty rare air....one of his good friends was one of the brothers who started Seattle's Best. My friend tells me that they started as an ice-cream and coffee shop; then the other brother wanted to dissolve the partnership. My buddy's friend told his brother to choose: ice-cream or coffee. The brother chose the ice-cream shop. I think he's still working...

So the first time you heard the ad, you mistook "Go Dutch" for "Go Ducks." Then, from that point on, you knew it had nothing to do the UO or the Ducks, but it still irks you to the point of boycotting. OK. So far in this thread it only bothers you, maybe other are similarly irritated. It could be many. Hard to say really. I don't recall ever hearing the ad, but I listen to and watch a lot of OSU athletic events; TV, Radio and Internet so I'm assuming I've heard this tagline before and it didn't bother me. It looks like they are using this tagline in their media presence for both OSU and UO. And since this topic has nothing to do with Women's Basketball, I'm going to move it.

It doesn't bother you - so woop-de-do for you!
Why do you infer that I have concluded it has nothing to do with hole? I think it's being done as a prank on Oregon State....and OSU goes along with it...doop-de-doop-de-doooo, oh boy! coffee!
One major rule of marketing is avoid bringing your competition to mind in a positive light at your own functions.... You would NEVER see a Chevy ad in front of Fort Knox saying "Built fort tough"..nobody here seems to grasp this concept. If it makes one think of your competition (and it does), you've screwed the pooch...and we are abusing that pup way to often. Folks here grumble about OSU's ineffective marketing - well, this is a glaring example. Imagine recruits here on a visit, hearing that - beautiful moment, dontchathink?
BTW - it does have to do with WBB, I heard it on the last live stream of their game....which is why I posted. Clearly stated by the subject line: "Watching the live stream". And WBB is implied by where I posted.

I hate those chumps in *uckville as much as the next guy, but I don't think the Dutch Bros ad is intended as a stealth "Go Ducks" prank on OSU. I guess I'm just not a conspiracy guy.

BTW, Go Dutch!
