"We appreciate Oregon State's diligence looking into the matter," USC associate sports information director Darcy Couch wrote in an email to The Oregonian/OregonLive. "The USC women's basketball team is focusing on the upcoming Pac-12 tournament."
Way to stand up for your players USC. Fight on.
OSU's response - Letters from Athletic Director Scott Barnes and Vice President Steve Clark. USC's response - One sentence from an associate SID.

I don't see that. I see a desire to leave it behind, no names mentioned, hoping that the whole matter is dropped.

I’m sorry but if that is how you stand up for your athlete who had actually been called a nig***r and a black bi*** by racist fans on the road - That’s pretty damn shameful. If they actually believe her that is. If they don’t believe her then it makes sense.

They don't believe her.... On this much, we agree. Moore and her teammates quit believing Simon the moment that the tweet was deleted. It put Moore in a no win situation. To correct her original statement she would have to put the focus back on the person she got the false statement from. Then the question would be why Simon made a false accusation. The players on the USC team are aware of Simons mental health issues and making a statement of retraction would put the focus back on her. If the statement is false the only options are that Simon fabricated them on purpose or they were a manifestation of her mental issues. Either one would not make her look good. Moore deleted the tweet not because she was concerned with the consequences to any investigation, but to protect Simon. It is as mbabeav stated. They want to say as little as possible and hope it goes away. That would probably be the best course for everyone.
