the good: offense is much improved from last few seasons. lineup is much longer and it looks like our 3,4,5 hitters will have enough protection behind them that they will get pitched to. team looks like it can play the small ball/ speed game as well as win a slugfest. speed does not go into slumps, we should be able to create runs by taking the extra base and putting pressure on the other teams. Kwan has been great, hitting the ball harder than his batting average shows. Nick is Nick, best player in the country. makes the game look simple, could probably play in the big leagues right now. his injury has exposed a lack of depth in the infield. Trevor has really tighten up his strike zone, not chasing as much as last year. if he can carry that into league, he will be a beast. we have 5 guys who could start in the outfield for almost any team in the league. hope Casey can get them all enough work to stay sharp. Luke looked good, really sharp in his 2nd start. 93-95 mph with good secondary stuff. don't think the ump squeezed him, just think in was poor umpiring. liked Abel, Chamberlain and obviously Gambrell.
concerns: writing this in terms this team getting to Omaha and doing damage. do not like the rotation behind Luke. this team will not go far with both Femhel and Tweedt in our rotation. need Abel or Gambrell to step up and take a weekend rotation spot. Brice and Sam do not have the stuff to face a good lineup multiple times during a game. to be able to pitch well consistently at their velocity you need either excellent secondary stuff, pin point control or great movement. their margin for error is very small. Tweedt is more of a Tuesday guy against U of P. would like to see a hard thrower in the mix at the back of the bullpen. I think who ever doesn't win a weekend rotation between Abel and Gambrell will be our bridge to get to our late inning guys.
should be a fun season, win some games 12-8 instead of 2-1 this year.

Thanks for info! After looking at the Team it looks real lean in the infield. I wonder if Ober can play 2nd. Noback ever play 2nd. What do I know..... LOL

I was there and liked the pitching Thursday and Sunday. I am also concerned about the other starters as it wasn't great. I Hope Madrigal gets back soon and of course Adley. Our offense is good. Kwan really can motor as He did with his triple. Right Field ,Center looked good except on one Ball. Left lost a ball in sun as did nebraska a couple times. Overall glad we are 8 and 0. Pitching is still work in progress. some long relief may be a starter soon. Expensive trip but what a venue.

I'm concerned with this hitting. I've seen the Beavers cool off great hitting clubs for years with stellar defense and pitching. I think we all have. So far the Beavers have committed too many errors and made too many pitching mistakes for me to think they can become stellar defensively.
With that said, and what racing folks will tell you: you run what you brung. If this is indeed a clubbing team well by all means lay the wood to it boys.

He's a great college player, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Perhaps in Sept. 2020. Perhaps. Very, very, very, very, very few position players jump directly to the majors.

LOL It looks like there are 3 freshman on the 35 man roster who are listed as “IF” (not counting the hginjured McGarry and the assumed cut players)...time will tell if any of them see time during the No-Nick period. If Armstrong doesn’t establish himself as a viable sub at 2B, we might see some options...especially in the 4 games against Hartford. If he comes through - all the better.

Beavers have committed 10 errors in 8 games, 3 by Gretler and 2 on bad pickoff throws. Throw in a rare Kwan misplay and Jack's sun ball, and the errors don t look quite as bad. Armstrong has been okay with the glove, but the bat has yet to come around. A rather puzzling thing to me is that Kwan has only bunted once in 8 games. The pitching looks better with each game.

The Beavs committed 12 errors last year in surprise so this isn’t anything to worry about.

I said he could, not that I think he will. scouts see his essentially as a finished product. only tool with much upside is power. he is plus hit, plus field and plus run right now
