We outhit them. They struck out eight times vs. our seven. I do believe our pitching and hitting is good enough to beat some of the top teams.
McKenna Arriola homered for the second straight day bringing her career total to six. Happy for her.
Frosh Hope Brandner hits her third of the season.
Senior Alysha Everett hits her second. This lineup does have some pop.
Our rough spot was that six of their runs were because of errors both physically and mentally. They scored four unearned runs and scored two runs on first and third situations.
Of our five errors, three were committed by SS McKenna Arriola and this one is on Berg, in my opinion. Some of you may remember me chronicling McKenna's struggles last year here on the board. I've watched her play since she started as a freshman and think she's a very good player. She was one of the reasons that her class was ranked as third in the nation. As a frosh she committed twenty errors at short which was almost twice as many as the next player but she was a frosh. Her fielding percentage was .899. I'm sure some out there have a better idea if that's a good, bad or indifferent percentage.
Her soph year she only committed thirteen for a nice upturn and a .919 fielding percentage.
Last year she committed twenty-seven! for a 8.78 percentage, worst season yet. This year she's committed eleven in sixteen games and sits currently with an .826 fielding percentage. Two of the three were throwing and though I don't know if I could actually find out her percentage of errors throw vs. field I would say by memory of following the games that's it's throwing.
I'm frustrated that Berg has not moved her to second to take some of the pressure off. I understand the Steve Sax argument but I sure would like to have seen her give it a try. I honestly think Berg can be very stubborn and this, IMO, supports that. I've also noticed some of Berg's reactions while coaching third and wonder if she is a bit of a tyrant as a coach, with players having a hard time relaxing. And to continue piling on there have been some players that have left and though I don't know the circumstances I'm very curious. I understand this happens in all programs but I still wonder. All thoughts pure conjecture of course.
All in all I think we've got the players but maybe she's reached her coaching peak., i.e., Wayne Tinkle
