In the Rawlings-Perfect Game pre-season rankings of collegiate players, the Beavers had 4 guys ranked on the Top-100 player list.
Madrigal was ranked No. 3, Grenier No. 26, Larnach No. 49, and Razz at No. 59. Coming off the four game Surprise tournament, Nick and Trevor made a case for moving up on the next rankings release. Their play was the talk of the tournament.
I would also opine that Rasmussen is better than No.59 but isn't able to raise his stock while rehabbing his surgery. In future updates, I expect to see Luke appear well up on that ranking list.

Appreciate all the great analysis. Any word on Gambrell? I know that you might not want to comment even if you have info. Hoping it isn't the 2 year injury. Kid was in remarkable condition and had transformed his body into big time athletic shape.

What surgery is Razz rehabbing from? Drew had a 2nd (gulp.) Tommy John surgery last September. Will be out for the season.

OSU career is definitely over - wouldn't want to risk pitching in college again anyway - here is a link to recovery rates for a 2nd TJ - sounds like the odds are not as bad physically as they are mentally. Drew has a great work ethic, and here is to taking the entire year to finish a solid recovery period. www.baseballamerica.com/majors/ask-ba-how-bad-is-a-second-tommy-john-for-a-pitchers-career/#KjaST56ebDGxtUog.97

Having said that, Drew is a redshirt senior next year, right? Drew will probably sign, if he gets drafted, but, theoretically, at least, Drew could come back in 2019, right?

He was drafted... he'll have to pass a physical again before signing deadline. A team could "use" him/ draft slot exactly how the Rays did this year. Or draft him very very low with 4-5 figure signing bonus for low risk, high reward possibility. The latter is most likely.

The problem is that it isn't just a second surgery like Jace Fry had -- a second injury. My understanding is that the first surgery was botched and complicated further by pitching with it.

I am confused by what you are saying with regards to the "'use' him/ draft slot exactly how the Rays did this year." Drew was drafted, but the Rays got the money back, because (and this is just my understanding) there was a discrepancy between the x-ray that Drew submitted before the draft and the x-ray that the Rays took. If there was no discrepancy, the Rays would have had to offer Drew more money. Drew was drafted, but he did not sign. And he was not granted free agency, so he could come back to Oregon State in 2019, right? Or is there something that would prevent Drew from coming back in 2019. The danger with drafting Drew for any team this year is that, if Drew does not like the offer, he has the nuclear option of returning to Oregon State in 2019, unless anyone is aware of something that would preclude Drew from returning in 2019, right?
