For whatever reason, hardly anyone ever bothered to screen out all night when the Bruins shot the ball. They weren’t bigger or faster than us. They out-worked us for those 18 offensive boards. When you don’t screen out, every missed shot becomes like a 50/50 loose ball. Sure, our players would try to get the rebound. But by choosing to not block out, it didn’t help much. 18 is A LOT of extra possessions that led to several fouls and or baskets.
Seems like such a shame that something so fundamentally simple would be so costly....when it didn’t have to be

9 of those boards were bricks they threw up that bounced over our guys crashing the boards to UCLA players. The other 9, no excuse, poor effort

Seems like such a shame that something so fundamentally simple would be so costly....when it didn’t have to be Eubanks? Is not a great rebounder. He could, and probably should, average a couple more rebounds a game. There was a play towards the end of the game that the guy he was guarding put up a soft shot down low. Eubanks turned and watched the shot hit the front of the rim while the guy he was guarding went right around him and put the rebound right back up for a really easy basket. This was while the game was still close. It’s plays like that, by not just Eubanks, that are keeping the Beavers winless on the road. They just don’t play with the effort that they should, and it’s becoming really hard to watch.

Seems like such a shame that something so fundamentally simple would be so costly....when it didn’t have to be blocking out is half of getting rebounds. The other half is anticipation, being first on the floor for the low caroms, urgency, following your shot on offense etc. Look at how Tres rebounded his own miss twice against fuskies. If you have a desperate mentality to get the ball in the hoop you will follow your shot and crash the boards just out of sheer urgency. There was only a little urgency against ucla and generally no urgency in the play of this team on the road. another thing i see with the team rebounding (and yes this is a RALPH thing) they jump too late when they go up for the ball. There is a trick to jumping early on rebounds. It freezes the other guy even if he has position or is bigger. The natural instinct is to hesitate when the guy next to you gets the jump on you. Jump early even if it means catching the ball as you are coming back down. And yes you can totally practice this. Make a drill of it if you want to fundamentalize it. Keyword if.

Maybe combine quick jumping and FT shooting fundamentals, might get us an extra win or two a year.
