Enjoyed listening to the PbP, even if it wasn't Parker calling it.

Nice to get an opening game win with a few long balls. Solid first game except for too many runners L.O.B. This is going to be another fun season.

Don't forget that Trevor went Yard straight away center and Eisert came in to shut them down for 3 solid innings.

Surprise report: 1. Beavs showed some "pop" in their bats. Madrigal hit the ball hard and his dinger flew out like a rocket shot. Larnach crushed a fastball 425 feet in straight away CF. The outfield fences at Surprise Stadium are 12' and CF is 400' to the fence. OSU hitters drove it deep, 4 other balls were caught on the warning track at the fence. Also, Nobach, pinch hitting, hit one out just foul in LF at the 340' mark.
2. Beavs had 3 chances at a DP. They executed a nice 5-4-3 but missed closely on two other tough chances, one when Gretler made a high throw to 2B resulting only in a force. Gretler made the rare error today on a routine ground ball. #2 and #3 made several routine plays as they always do. Taylor looked good and comfortable at 1B.
3. Kwan doesn't need to bunt - he hit two hard shots that were caught and had a bang-bang play at 1B on a ground ball. He made good contact and worked the count well. Larnach, hitting cleanup, K'd following Madrigal's double and Malone, DH'ing in the 5 hole fanned twice before getting a sharply hit base hit (1-4). I suspect Nobach will DH at some point.
4. Luke looked fine but wasn't quite as sharp as he can be. I thought for his first outing in over 8 months, he was fine. Threw mostly fastballs but mixed in the breaking ball and change. Control was a little spotty at times. Scouts liked him - they had his velo sitting on 90-91, touching 92 frequently. A scout behind me had him at 95 on one punch-out in the early innings. Different guns = different reads. Anyone that's ever used the old Jugs gun and the Ray gun knows there are differences.
5. Eisert continues to amaze and impress. Total command of the zone, moving the sinking 88 mph fastball in and out, up and down, changing speeds frequently! 3 scoreless innings, 3 K's and UMN couldn't get a smell of first base. Yeskie must love that guy.
6. Today was 64 degrees and overcast - warmer tomorrow for the Zags. I think we'll see Fehmel in that one.

Nobs need to DH at least... 3 ks vs that pitching is not acceptable even in game 1.
