Was disappointed to see our ladies give up 10 runs to San Jose State. Had to bring in Freshman hopeful Meehra Nelson at the end to strike out the last two batters to seal the 14-10 win. We were up 7-0 and couldn't shut down what 'should be' an inferior team to us. I feel like Berg is probably bringing Nelson along. However, I've seen plenty of freshman pitchers dominate the circle in the tournament over the years and if Nelson is that good make her our #1. Arizona State won a national title a few years ago with a freshman pitcher(Dallas Escobedo) as their number one. I'm not saying that Nelson is her equal but from what I've read she is pretty darn good.

I see that Meehra Nelson is starting in the second game against #18 Kentucky so she may be our number one and coach was saving her for this game. I may have spoke too soon. Go Beavers!!!

We not only have 7 runs...we've left 10 on base. I guess at this point in the game that seems to be the only blemish.

Run-ruled the #18 team? A good start to the season!

Berg's biggest problem has been that softball pitchers are recruited when they are still in diapers. She has been playing catch-up from the moment she took over the head coaching job in the pitching aspect. With Eason(Long) and Mazon coming in the next 2 years, the Beavers really have turned the corner in pitching. Nelson-Eason-Mazon will be formidable. This season will still have some trying mound moments, but the future really is bright.
