Andrea Aquino named as SoCal's top prep in 2018. Patricia Morris also mentioned, but you need to be a subscriber to find out her ranking. www.jrallstar.com/news_article/show/867490The site is run by an organization that puts on tournaments and provides scouting reports (thus the paywall for the full list.)

I really think that these two are going to make a big impact on the beavs for the next four years. One of the biggest advantage of having the two of them is that they can practice against each other, it's hard to replicate height. And it sounds like PM is good enough to challenge AA.

bib - I really hope you're right on the impact AA & PM will have as Beavs....
Right now I'm waiting for a lot more evidence than what we have thus far... Neither player has exerted eye-popping dominance in the h.s. ranks. Both have excellent physical assets, which is a good start.
AA has gone thru a very disjointed year at her new school; she missed part of the season because of transfer rules; she does not seem to have excellent (or even good) h.s. coaches at Ribet; the games she has thus far played in have not raised eyebrows of the "can't miss" variety...
If the post-season honors recognize these 2 girls in a significant way that will be a good sign...I'd feel better if more coaches weighed in on how they view the talents of PM & AA...
So, it's pretty much wait and see.....Perhaps one frame of reference is 6'8" Jo Grymek. She is a national team player, has 2 years of Comm. College coaching and playing time, is older and stronger than either AA & PM - and her floor time this season - especially against the teams in the top half of the conference is minimal..This is not a perfect comparison because AA & PM both play quicker and faster than Grymek. But it's an indicator.
So, as of now, it looks to me like AA & PM are both 2 - 3 year projects. Hopefully with great upside. And hopefully sooner than 2-3 years. These two will help Coach R and staff solidify their reputations as premiere developers of post-talent. GO BEAVS

I think we need for these two girls to hit the ground running or we might be in a world of hurt. Grymek might be 6'8", but she plays as a 6'3" because she doesn't jump. I noticed her defense is pretty weak and I'm not sure what her shooting range is because I haven't seen a jump or a hook shot from her. With Marie graduating its going to leave a major hole in our team. We need someone to step up like Brown and Orum did last year.

If we need a "big", somebody's gonna play.

kersting 13 - "If we need a "big", somebody's gonna play. "
Two quick responses to this comment as it pertains to next year's Beavs.
(1) The "big" for next year may very well be Maddie Washington - if she laced up at 6'3" I would bet on it. (2) Next year's Beavs are going to take the floor with all of this year's talent (minus Gulich). Plus Slocum & the speedy Aussie (why can't I recall her name?)
That's a lot of floor speed and shooting power - the makings of a faster, more explosive team than we have this year. So, Coach might not want to slow down the pace this team can manufacture with a slower big. Bigs almost always require a slower paced game to maximize their strengths. With the fire power he's looking at, Coach may not want to slow things down. Hence, no Big. Yes, I can see it.
Just thinking out loud here...... GO BEAVS

I did qualify the statement as "if" we need a big. I suppose it's possible we go with a small line-up much of the time. I was just kind of thinking how raw Ruth was as a frosh. She did play good D, and that's all you really "need". I don't know how well either AA or PM play D.

GO BEAVS The speedy Aussie's name is Jasmine Simmons or apparently she goes by "Jazz". Maddie has neither the size nor scoring ability to be the go to low post player. JT is both a bit bigger and stronger but like Maddie doesn't seem to have the scoring ability either. Jo had the size and can score but needs to improve her speed and endurance. Give Macy another year with her and those can improve if she is willing to put in the work. That leaves the twin towers, in order for us to be successful one or both are going to have to contribute. If Taya adds some muscle she may end up with some low post minutes to go with her time at high post. Just throwing this out there, we may need to move KtMac to high post. She has played some in the past and did ok. That would free up a spot for DS. Or else we go with four guards which is surely going to happen some.

He's building towards an inside-outside game to better utilize his outstanding 3-point shooters. He needs these taller girls in the middle. Aquino is supposedly mobile and suited to playing a forward position. Morris is more of a true center and one of her talents has been cited as making the pass to start the fast break. There is no doubt we will have a transition game; the bigger question is whether the "bigs" are mobile enough to get down court to defend the other team's fast break. I'm sure there will be match-ups where they are mobile enough. When they can both be in the game, I'll enjoy seeing other teams trying to defend against our inside threat without leaving a 3 point shooter open or the other "tower"; they can't double team both. With that height, they will be better able to pass to one another and to kick the ball back out to the open player on the perimeter.

With that height, they will be better able to pass to one another and to kick the ball back out to the open player on the perimeter. I agree with the latter position - Rueck will be using both AA and PM inside next year. Both of them have at least the foot speed of Ruth or Joanna, and their ability to affect opponent's shots and rebound will let them similarly earn their keep on the floor as they develop through their first year. AA was being courted by UConn, PM by a laundry list of West coast and mid-west who's whos.......between Mik, Kat, Aleah, Taylor, Destiny, Jazz, KTMac, and Taya, we have outside shooting covered. Every (good) Pac-12 team seems to have good forward/center position players that we will have to match up against (in fact, I would say our Pac-12 losses this year so far all stem from "forward by committee" and lack of quick ball handlers). We will remedy this next year. Next year's challenge seems to be "Marie by committee", and while replacing her stats collectively at the center position is possible, her leadership might be another matter. I doubt it was just AA's 6'9" height that rated her sooooo high in recruiting rankings - I look at Mik and Taya, and they both were first year starters, and they came in rated lower. AA was player of the game against Aquira deCosta's St Mary's team. Some videos of AA working on footwork back east exhibited footwork of Gulich caliber.....I read somewhere about churn and unheaval in Ribet's coaching ranks - that plus her late add to the team could explain the numbers issue. I have high hopes for PM between some raves from UCLA fans who scouted her plus the list of schools after her. I suspect AA and PM will be here for the summer, while Joanna was doing National team things until late. Seeing SRs tendencies over the years, he will probably start with a lineup of returners (Mik, DS, Kat/KTMac, Taya and Jo), but I would not be surprised if AA and/or PM make a run at a starters role by December...... Go Beavers!
