The Brewers designated Susac for assignment. He can now sign with another team, or accept a demotion to triple-A. He is no longer on their 40-man, which makes making the team tough even if he accepts the triple-A assignment.
He needs to get healthy and stay healthy.

He cannot sign with anyone during the ten day assignment period. He can be claimed by another team. If so, the Brewers can allow the claim to go through or pull him back and work a trade. If there are no claims or trades during the ten day period, he can be released or outrighted to the minors. Depending on his contract he might be able to reject a Minor league assignment and become a free agent.

Brewers did the same with Scooter Gennett just before the regular season last year, and Gennett ended up hitting 27 HRs (including 4 in one game) for the Reds after becoming their starting 2B 1/3 way through the season. The 2B the Brew-crew chose over Gennett - Jonathan Villar - ended playing so poorly, he was replaced at the trade deadline by Neil Walker. Just saying that talent evaluation isn't always on point. That said, the Brewers really made a few trades this winter that should push them toward the playoffs. They're banking on established MLB talent right now. Talented catchers are always a commodity. I expect Susac will have certainly have a job in 2018 if he's healthy enough, whether it's in MLB, AAA, with the Brewers org, or elsewhere.
