Nice to read this today, and it is hard to not get pumped up for what should be a very promising reason.
However, I am somewhat uncomfortable with the situation with Heimlich. I will state at the outset that I am fully in support of him playing and have no problems with that. I have a pretty close relationship with immediate family members of Jack Anderson and the team's support of Heimlich is overwhelming and unconditional. It is also true that the players found out about everything when we all did..that goes for PC as well.
My problem is that I don't think it is a good idea to just sort of roll him out there on the first Friday as though there is no elephant in the room. I am concerned that is not going to be good for Luke himself, let alone the team.
My feeling is that the situation has to be addressed in some matter...preferably head on with complete candor and honesty. I think if his story is told properly, this issue will fade and eventually become background noise. If it is ignored, the specter of this situation will linger as a distraction and frankly become somewhat nasty potentially.
Again, I am without reservation, supportive of LH, but I think there are steps that need to be taken.

PC will indeed roll him out and give him support and the same high expectations he has for every player. Luke and the team will have a tough (of not improbable) time duplicating last season, but in no way does it mean his situation is the cause. Although some here and in the media will not let it go. If you're in full support you'd trust PC and not think it already hasn't been handled with candor and honesty.

But to say that it has been dealt with beyond that is not correct. If you are of the opinion that no further comment needs to be made publicly by Luke or by Casey that is fine...I strongly disagree and I believe I will be proven right.

Or should LH and PC decide internally?

This has been fully addressed by Luke and the team. Luke held himself out of the final games of the season possibly costing OSU a national championship. He no longer has a criminal record.
Pat Casey said it best: "he's there to play baseball". There's nothing else to be said or done and you or anyone else is not owed more.

It is not a matter of what I feel I'm owed, it is a matter of the practical implications of what forestalling any further discussion of this may mean. I am surprised that people aren't seeing that.

If I remember correctly this matter was Settled in Aug of this year. Why anyone needs to keep bringing up the subject is beyond me. The young man plays baseball.

If this was settled internally, then why did he not pitch in Omaha? If he took it upon himself to bow out because of distractions or whatever, what has changed since then? Is the passage of time sufficient? If I am Luke, I would want to have an interview and express myself. At some point in his life he is going to have to. I think he is a great young man who may not fully understand what he is getting himself into. This was among the most passionate and polarizing sports issues of the year in the state of Oregon last year. I never wavered in my support for Casey and LH...I just think quite differently about how the baseball team should approach the start of this very special season.

If I am Luke, I would want to have an interview and express myself. His record was expunged in August, after a successful 5-year probation period. You are not Luke. So I guess he will continue to do what he and his advisors feel is best for himself.

Not too many positions are even open going into this year. It will be interesting to see how 1B plays out. Also how Nobach fits in.
The starting rotation should be Heimlich and Fehmel, big battle for the 3rd and midweek position. With 8 games the first couple of weeks, 4 starters will be necessary.

I've followed this at a bit of a distance - but was aware that come August 2017 he would be eligible for an expunged record. If his record was in fact expunged, imho END of discussion. Can you provide any more details to back up your statement that the record was expunged. Thanks.

It was stated in one of the articles last year that because of the level of his action was given, the State of Washington had a 5 year limit of that being on his record.
