Looking in on AA, PM and JS.... AA: AA has played 7 games for Ribet Academy and is averaging 9.6 ppg, 7.1 reb and 3 blocks. I was hoping for more domination from a top-10 player, but could be lots more to that stat line that I don't know (like minutes per game). She was selected player of the game against St Mary's (which I believe has Aquira DeCosta) for having 11 points, 14 rebounds, 6 blocks, 1 assist a couple days ago. PM: Can't find much on how PM is doing. Duarte is overall 11-10 and in League 6-0, so she must be doing well in league play. No one posts boxscores with player totals on MaxPreps for Duarte, as far as I can tell. JS: Two articles that tease of her potential, one from a few years ago, and one from a few days ago..... www.facebook.com/BasketballAusCOE/photos/pcb.1493925707562759/1493920147563315/?type=3&theater (played boys Aussie football until she aged out!) Quote from www.sunraysiadaily.com.au/story/5192283/accolades-for-jasmine-simmons/ from a few days ago: Sandringham Sabres head of basketball Brendan Joyce, a former Opals coach, described Simmons as “one of the best all -round juniors I have seen play for many years”. Go Beavers!

In the game I saw posted to FB it seemed that AA's coaches are not utilizing her skills and height where she can be most effective. She played a lot on the perimeter, away from the basket. It seems to me that the should be playing her on each side of the key, where she has the opportunity for short jumpers, hooks, and lay-in's. She shot a lot from the perimeter... and didn't shoot all that well in that particular game.
Another factor is that she seemed to be surrounded by some talent... at least some good shooters, such that they did not really seem to be focusing on getting AA the ball.

One of those articles confirms what I saw on one of her highlight videos: She's got a great vertical. On one of those videos, it looked like she released the ball very close to the rim on a layup. She could be a great small forward for Rueck who is capable of great defense. Women players typically have a vertical of about 18" compared to men players' 27", which is why in practice vs the men, Rueck doesn't allow the men to block the ladies' shots: The ladies wouldn't get any shots off. A good vertical is a huge assist on defense.
