I ran across this news item in Raoul's Twitter (a good source for collegiate WBB info.) -------------------- WBB: Ramani Parker, 6-4 F, Central HS (Fresno, CA–2019), has announced her commitment to Louisville. Her other finalists were Duke, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Oregon State. ----------------------------------- Several previous threads have discussed her talents. It's pretty much agreed that she is a major, major prospect. I Have no idea how serious she was about OSU.... GO BEAVS !!

I don't know what the situation at the F spot is for Loooville. I also can only speculate what impact the presence and relative youth of our current crop of forwards had on her analysis. Maybe she liked the Bluegrass state and horses and what not. I will note that it seems that Louisville should be a Final Four fixture given their recruiting: "Parker is the second commitment in the '19 class, joining Allen, Tx., guard Nyah Green - who is the No. 1 player in the '19 class. The Cardinals have now landed 21 commitments in the '14, '15, '16, '17, '18 and '19 classes with 19 of the 21 being ranked in the top 60 of at least one service, 14 of those in the top 30 and 12 in the top 20." Any way you slice it, a bit of a bummer for us. Go Beavers!

Ever been to "Loooville?" It is TRULY a "S-Hole." Truly. Hard to fathom.

I personally have not been to Loooville. I dealt with a Gift Card management company headquartered in that city some years ago, and the CTO of that company extolled the virtues of the city up one side and down the other, but I never got to visit and observe first hand.
"Hard to fathom" from a quality of life perspective, perhaps, but if you mesh with future teammates, if you like the coaches, if you feel there is more opportunity, I guess you can overlook minor things like the surrounding environs being a "S-Hole". Especially if you are 18/19 and not prone to thinking about these things too long.
(I recall sampling the nightlife - "Tough Guy Cinema" - in downtown Austin, TX once upon a time and realizing that if "bright lights, big city" was your thing, Corvallis wouldn't stand a very good chance for a recruit with a UT offer as well).
Go Beavers!

2ndGenBeaver - -well some things stand the test of time rather well. Corvallis still doesn't stand a very good chance for signing a recruit with a UT offer. Maybe someone on the Board with a real knowledge of recruiting knows if OSU has EVER landed a recruit with a bona fide Texas offer....(Not counting Baseball !!)😎

411500 - Agree. Well, we may need to watch this evolving situation to see how it plays out: Go Beavers!

Was there for a meeting years ago, and in the only residential area we drove through, neighborhood kits threw rocks at our rental van. Driven to/through many many cities, and this is the ONLY place this has ever happened to me.
New study ranks Louisville 11th-deadliest U.S. city
Would have to agree with you. Louisville is mostly crap (with a few exceptions, i.e. "better" neighborhoods). However, the University has spent a ton upgrading its athletic facilities recently, so that could be one reason for her choice.

Sounds like a young lady very determined to chase some goals, and none of her goals involve being an accomplished HS player (when you have a full ride from your "dream school" already, what will HS participation gain her?)
I am left with a wistful "innocence lost" feeling, similar to the feeling I get when college players sit out bowl games because they got what they needed. The causal chain is complex, ranging from injury fears to "what's in it for me?"-ism and everything in between, but the game is no longer just a game. Some more of that "innocence lost" feeling came when I learned that your top-flight recruit requires daily texts/visits/letters/expressions of top priority from the head coach in order to feel wanted.......
And being in possession of a math degree myself, I was going to say something snarky about the goal of "bringing my 3.6 GPA up to a 4.0" since if she is talking cumulative she can't, but I suspect she is talking about semester/quarter grades :-).
Talented player going elsewhere, at the end of the day. I guess we need to echo the attitude of her HS coach: “We are all happy for her and her family,” he said. “We wish them nothing but the best. We are moving forward with the girls that we have. They are all committed to the program and are improving everyday. Blessed to be a part of their process.”
Go Beavers!

Can only feel bad for her teammates. It's usually a lot of fun to play sports with a teammate who is immensely talented. While none of my teammates in sports I played ever got a full-ride scholarship, I do know the difference in attitude it can make when you know you have a teammate who can do amazing things vs having a team full of scrubs. It's fun to watch really good players as a teammate, and it's a motivation and a driver to improve yourself when you have someone like that on your team. Just seeing what's possible every day is a motivator. At least in HS, she's not getting scholarship money like a college player sitting out bowl games, but she's still letting a lot of her teammates down.

Contrast her with a player like Cameron Brink, instead of playing for the best aau team she chose to play for the same team as her high school teammates. She made the decision to put her friends before herself. I certainly hope we are being considered by unselfish players like her.
