I see an instagram post from his Mom showing a Payton Lakers jersey. Just checked GPII's insta, doesn't show anything bout the Lakers, I don't think he is coming back to the west coast anytime soon unfortunately.

Hopefully GPII cracks the lineup on the Lakers or switch him to PG and send lonzo the the NBA G-league.

Can someone remind me how the 2-way contracts work?

Can someone remind me how the 2-way contracts work? I think it means that he agrees to play both offense and defense. Right?

I do actually think Lonzo will end up being a very good player in the league for a while (in spite of his dad). If we want to discuss bad jump shots, Markelle Fultz might be the new norm. Just bizarre. deadspin.com/brett-brown-is-as-perplexed-by-markelle-fultzs-shot-as-1822090458

You can't be a lock down defender if you can't stay on the court because you are a dead spot on offense. Even the marginal guys will can an open look half the time.

Can someone remind me how the 2-way contracts work? It's new this year to the NBA. It essentially signs a player to one team as a G-League player with the option of the player spending up to 45 days in the NBA on his contracted team (ONLY) during the course of the season. Their pay is higher than players who are signed just to the G-league and increases when called up to the NBA team. When they play in the NBA, they make NBA rookie-minimum wage for the amount of time in the NBA.
So Payton II will play for the Lakers G-League affiliate and can be called up to the NBA only by the Lakers (as opposed to players that can be called up to the NBA by any team) for a maximum of 45 days during the course of the season. His pay will be $50-75k/year, as opposed to $19-26k/year for standard G-leaguers and will increase to a pro-rated portion of the rookie minimum when he is called up.

bonus points if you knew they changed "D league" to "G league" because of the Gatorade sponsorship. i did not know (care).

Just looked at the South Bay Lakers roster, and the only guy on it I have heard of is Stephen Zimmerman. And he's certainly a cautionary tale for anyone looking to come out early. McDonald's All-American who went to UNLV and averaged 10.5 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.96 blocks his freshman season, and then declared for the draft. Drafted second round, played all of about 110 minutes in NBA last year, and is getting about 16 minutes in the G League this year. I don't know if he had grade issues or something else that made him come out early, but sure looks like he would have been better off staying in school.
