OK so he wasn't academically eligible for fall 16. There are very few situations where a student athlete is eligible to enroll for school but not participate. Wallace fit into that category, but he also attended the BRIDGE program, whereas Garcia did not. So I do think he delayed enrolling until winter quarter, which means his clock didn't start ticking until mid-year so he has only lost one season of eligibility and he should indeed be 4x4. If I'm wrong and he did get enrolled and 16 was a RS year then he burned a year of eligibility sitting out and he would now be 3x3. One of two reasons for a greyshirt: Grades or Scholarship room. It was mentioned very early on... it wasn't as much grades but his HS fudging transcripts and giving credits incorrectly. He was not at fault and paid for the HS ineptness.

He was not at fault and paid for the HS ineptness. and that is fine. what still is a mystery is why he didn't participate in the spring and then left like a week into fall camp. It wasn't grades after he was enrolled, to my understanding. It could be delayed NCAA clearance, but we have always been upfront about that in the past (Kyle Peko, etc...) why the mystery here? It wasn't grades. Grade/Transcript issues was the reason for the greyshirt. not the reason for walking away/not participating in 2017

I do think that's the actual reason. Garcia reportedly left because he didn't like being treated like a child.. didn't like the micromanaging of the staff and seemingly erratic discipline being meted out for "attitude problems" and things of the like, from what I hear. Is it far-fetched to think that he wasn't being allowed to play during spring because there was some "lesson" in the "process" that Andersen wanted him to learn? Not to me. I think that's probably closest to the truth.
