SF is an abbreviation for ? Shooting forward? Strong forward? Swing forward? lightbulb - probably small forward . . . . What are the terms and abbreviations for positions 1 - 5?

1-PG (point guard) 2-SG (shooting guard) 3-SF (small forward) 4-PF (power forward) 5-C (center)
This is a team makeup that is more noticeable in the NBA. In college you typically have a point guard, two wings and two forwards. If you're a team like Utah then you have a center (poeltl) but most college teams don't have a true center.

In college you typically have a point guard, two wings and two forwards. If you're a team like Utah then you have a center (poeltl) but most college teams don't have a true center. And to add, just for the fun of it. in a classic basketball offense. the PG (the 1) will line up at the top of the key beyond the arc (three point line). The SG and SF (2 and 3) will line up on the "wings", which is basically the curved area of the 3 point line that is roughly where the free throw line would intersect if it continued out. the PF and C (or other forward, as is typical in college) will line up on what they call the elbows, which is either side of the free throw line. If you think of that as "basic", there are two major shifts. Low post: the center (the 5) or other forward drifts back towards the hoop, outside the paint. The 4 stays up top around the free throw line. High post: the PG and the SG both space out over the top of the Key and the SF and PF assume position on the wings. the 5 centers up around the free throw line. OSU does this a bunch based on our lack of true big men. the high post or two guard look. Generally in basketball, when a team is not on a fast break, you will see them sort of drift towards one of those set ups, then execute their motions and passes and screens and whatwillyou from there. Your 4 or your 5 will come out and set a pick, your 2 and your 3 will run crosses or L patterns.. That is kind of the basketball 101 look at it.

I didn't realize Majerle was the coach there. I'm not gonna lie, I loved me some Majerle back in the day.
I saw a Frontline documentary a year or so ago about for profit colleges. I remember gcu being talked about, as well as some of them trying to start competitive sports programs. Sounds like they must be doing well.
