Decent height. Lefty throwing and hitting (Never hurts to have a left handed first baseman)
His high school stats show some decent power and ability to drive in runs.
Crescent Valley High School
• Lettered four seasons for head coach Ryan Starwalt.
• Named first-team all-state during his career, and was a two-time first-team all-league selection.
• Batted .495 as a senior, tallying 16 doubles, seven triples, five home runs and 38 RBI.
• As a junior, batted .440 with three home runs and 41 RBI.
• Also earned four letters in basketball as a point guard and two years in football as a wide receiver. Named Player of the Year, first-team all-state and first-team all-league in basketball.
Just sayin'

My money is on Zak Taylor being our starting first baseman in Surprise.

Joe was a very good high school player, but with the other talent that we have, I would be shocked if he sees the field for more than just spot duty.
Brett Casey had a similar high school career and could not crack the lineup.

I watched Joe play this last summer with the Elks, and he is far better than I had been led to believe. However, I believe Smalls has the correct analysis.
I so think Smalls is wrong on Brett, though. The overall talent on the team wasn't quite as high when Brett was at OSU, but Coach held Brett to a higher standard. Jmho on that one, obviously.
I would agree with the poster on Taylor getting the start against lefties, but McGrady getting a long look against righties. If the platoon doesn't work, there are tons of options with Gretler moving to first and a couple of good young guys taking third being the obvious.

I'll go with spell checker. On the football board I did "Bama" and spell checker changed it to "Mama."

Thread Repair>>>Original topic is What about Joe Casey at 1B?? Continuing thoughts on that topic: I also saw JC play a number of games this year in WCL. Certainly not overwhelmed by what I saw. IMHO Bend Elk teammate Beaver Zach Clayton showed greater upside. In my very humble opinion, Zak Taylor, McGarry (also played WCL summer of 2017) or Zach Clayton; or outside-the-box Kyle Nobach, would be more likely than Casey to become the regular first baseman. Unless of course Gretler moves across the diamond.
