Here's a link to an article detailing their schedule this week. Posted today, it mentions a game today and that Andrea Aquino has finished her 30 day period of sitting out due to her transfer to Ribet Academy. I hope we see some stats from the games this week!

And MaxPreps (may need to create a free account to follow link) reports that Ribet Fighting Frogs beat Valencia tonight (1/3) by a score of 51 - 32. No box score as of yet. Go Beavers (and soon-to-be Beavers)!

Thanks for posting this! I watched all of Andrea's playing time. I think she needs a lot of development. She hit her two FT's, but she missed every shot I saw her take from outside about eight feet. She didn't seem to hustle down court or crash the boards. She played poor position defense (though her height allowed her to swat some shots anyway). I was surprised that they didn't have her playing down low more than they did. Often times she was out away from the basket, not in position to get rebounds on defense and not usually in position to get shots under the basket (though she did get a couple within four feet). She's going to be pushed to work a lot harder at OSU. Hopefully she adjusts and learns quickly.

The first thing I saw Andrea do in that video was to put the ball on the floor one time from beyond the 3 point line, take 2 giant steps, and attempt a layin on which she was fouled. Duh. Like how many times did Ruth Hamblin try that? Zero? Another time she took the defensive rebound and DRIBBLED it downcourt a ways before passing it to a teammate. Ruth could not dribble well, even as a senior. Also remember that even as a senior Ruth had trouble hitting a shot from 3 feet away. My point is that OFFENSIVELY Andrea will be superior to the senior Ruth starting from Andrea Day One. And given Ruth's difficulty in moving on defense, I see no reason that Andrea can't at least equal Ruth's defensive skills, and probably exceed them given that at 6'9" her reach exceeds Ruth's reach. So I'll claim that from her day #1 we have at least a "Ruth+". If she can competently pass after inevitably being double-teamed, she'll be huge for us.

“And given Ruth's difficulty in moving on defense...” For a player who had “difficulty moving on defense”, she somehow managed to win Pac-12 DPOY 2X. If AA can do as well in her career at OSU she will be a truly special and memorable player. Looking forward to seeing what she does with her opportunity.

Ruth was great defensively at near-hoop intimidation, but she didn't move well away from the basket to guard more mobile centers with an outside shot. That's what I was referring to. If Ruth could win DPOY, then both PM and AA should be able to, depending on where they play and how much they play. Both of these new players have the potential to greatly exceed Ruth's output on both offense and defense, just due to their clearly superior and more advanced physical skills and size. The next few years could be VERY special indeed. I don't live in Oregon, but it will be worth it to fly back for every WBB home weekend to catch a couple games. Add PM, AA, DS, and JS to a team that already has significant talent, and this team should be top 5 nationally and contending for the Pac-12 championship every year. JMHO.

My thanks also for posting the game.
Positives that I saw- so eager she was diving for the ball, good attitude for rebounds (that's MINE), decent mobility and court awareness so she can go after (and get) blocks, she can dribble, nice soft mid-range shot (not falling much, but it's been a while since she's played in games), making the right passes.
Negatives as I see them- Should she be diving for balls? Wanders away from the basket. Needs to learn to put some speed on those passes so they get there before the defense can react. Dribbling is for special situations and not frequent use. Plays more like a wanna be guard than a center. I got the impression she finds it boring to hang by the basket all the time.
When she stayed near the basket she blocked or effected a huge % of the shots. Now if someone can convince her to stay there.

I think AA will do very well here.... Add some dribble driving guards (DS?JS?), the outside shooting we have now, and put AA in that mix, and I think we will be formidable.
What I saw in the AA videos was someone who moved her feet, drove to the basket (that first drive at the ~14:00 mark where she starts out at the 3 point line and in 1 dribble and 2 steps is at the rim was a harbinger of great things to come), had impressive size and reach. Along with the fact that she was on a team whose spacing/passing on the floor wasn't so great, and they didn't have the amazing outside shooting we bring to the party. Being her first game with this set of players, I also think they will learn how to better use her over time.
I hope we see more videos, I only see 9 games left on the Ribet schedule (outside of post-season, I guess).
(Edit - and are those orange shoes she is wearing? if so, my compliments on her selection of footwear :-)).
Go Beavers!

Give Rueck, Baker, and Macy a year or two and she is going to be stronger, faster and a far better player. She has been through some tough situations the last few years, no one can say how she is going to develop but I think she is going to blossom in the company of our team.

She has been through some tough situations the last few years, no one can say how she is going to develop but I think she is going to blossom in the company of our team. Next year the Beavs will have a senior at that position (J. Grymek) whose presence will allow a nice bit of latitude for the development of AA. I don't take lightly the contributions or importance of JG. With all the the talent the Beavs will have next season at point guard, shooting guard and forward - namely the entire current squad (with one more year of PAC 12 experience), plus Destiny Slocum (premier pg), plus 6'7" Patricia Morris (Fresh.) and Australian dynamo Jasmine Simmons (Fresh.), I think it's quite do-able for the WBB team to rely on positions 1 thru 4, while the Center is held down by a veteran like Grymek and a learning AA.

Also, between Destiny and Jasmine, I expect our issues with pressuring, quicker teams to virtually disappear.

The Ribet Academy Fighting Frogs beat Bishop Montgomery tonight: 60-47. Video of the game is posted at the Ribet Facebook site. I was able to only see the first 3 minutes or so of the second half, where AA hit a 3 and got whistled for 3 seconds. AA's stats from the prior game were posted as 19 pts / 5 reb / 2 blocks. Go Beavers!

It warms my heart to see the level of Beaver pride AA seems to have already. Love it!
My suspicion is that Beaver fans are going to totally embrace this young lady in coming years.....
Go Beavers!

My wife is already checking into the NCAA rules to see whether she can bake her a pie.
