I called him China Doll Nall since he got injured so many times. If he can head into the combine in good health, why not go now? RB's are Not For Long when it comes to pro careers and sometimes for college ones as well. We got lucky when Stanford's stud RB was MIA. At least losing Nall is hardly a crippling blow to our team since we were in such dire shape anyways. Now there will be more room in the backfield for playing time and with no set star RB in hand, it could make it easier to sign a HS stud since recruits can see themselves able to compete for a slot with a decent chance of making it on the field. I'll call this move a win-win for Nall and OSU. Losing one of our best players is a win? I seriously don't understand that logic.

Here's the deal Joe. A slot opens up that was previously taken by someone who could not last a season. Read my post and if you can't see the logic, sorry to say I cannot help you.

Thank you Ryan and best of luck.
I will forever remember you busting through helpless ucks in the pouring rain during that 2016 Civil War win. It was a little bit of light in what had been many years of dark.

This may also portune well in regard to AP. I could see him thriving in the run and pass game under JS, and even if TT gets that extra year, there will be plenty of carries to go around. I'm a little confused. Did you mean portend? Yes...or maybe I was just trying to create a new word? Sometimes my fingers don’t do what I tell them to on my I-phone keyboard. Ha-ha

There’s been some chatter that a certain youngster has been hoping for more PT, this gives him that and hopefully alleviates the transfer worries some have had.

Good luck Ryan Nall, one of the few bright spots the past few years.
I think he gets drafted, you can say what you want about his production, the fact of the matter is he played behind 3 years of horrid O-lines. The scouts will be able to roll tape and see that 60% of his carries were going nowhere, didn't matter who was carrying the ball. It's what he showed on the other 40% of his carries that will count most, and he made the most of those.
Nall averaged 5.8 YPC, that's a pretty crazy stat all things considered. That's 0.1 YPC less than Freeman and Gaskin, 0.3 YPC less than Jones, and get this, better than SeQuon Barkley (5.7 YPC)
He's not elite by any measure, but he's obviously got good size, decent speed, good vision, good hands, great athleticism. The biggest concern as someone mentioned above is can he stay healthy. I'd venture to guess his body can't and won't take the pounding it will receive at the NFL level.

If there's one thing I've learned from reading OSU message boards for SO many years: Our collective "armchair" GMing/draft prognosticating is pretty bad. Even though I've heard "draft experts" claim that Nall will need to move to FB in the NFL, he doesn't look like a FB to me. He's not a FB type "mauler", and he has the same kind of speed, or better, than many of the "big" NFL RBs. If we're comparing him to "white NFL RBs" (which seems to be the only kind of comparison people are willing to make) he's more Brian Leonard than Mike Alstott. Leonard carved out a decent 8 year NFL career as mostly a 3rd down back and special teams stalwart. As to where that lands him in the NFL draft - I'm not even going to speculate. I am willing to bet that his 40x for his weight will be impressive, should he get an invite.

So you were that ahole sitting close to me in the early part of the game a couple years ago at Reser in Section 18, that called him that, then left once the weather got too bad for you, and he had a big game. Figures!

I'm excited to see RB next season! Nall was OK but I think we are going to be pleasantly surprised when the dust settles and our new kid gets to run the ball, but then again GA was excited about him so that could be a bad sign!! hehe Another texas superstar?? here's hoping!!

I don't see the FB thing, I'm guessing those making the comment haven't watched him play much. Nall is really athletic for a guy his size.
I just watched his highlight reel from sophomore year, which only pissed me off more about this year, but man, it was pretty awesome. Sure it's 25 or so plays out of a total season, but it's not like other RBs make highlights every other run. It's pretty cool how often he breaks defenders ankles, he's got serious shakes for a big guy. That really doesn't translate in the NFL, but it does speak to his athleticism and vision.
As for his speed, he's gotta be pretty fast. There are a few breakaway runs where he's maybe not running away from defenders, but he's not getting caught by them either, and most of those guys still chasing him weigh 30 to 40 lbs less.
It would have been fun to see him run behind even a serviceable offensive line, and/or a half-decent offense. I personally don't think Freeman is all that much better than Nall, and he's projected to go in the first few rounds by some. Freeman certainly has more speed and quickness. But Freeman looks like a poor man's Jonathan Stewart to me.
