Happy New Year! The 2018 season of great promise is here. We are only 46 days away from our opening game in the Arizona sunshine.
Feel free to view your team by visiting the official site and see the 2017 roster featuring Jake Thompson, K.J. Harrison, Max Englebrekt, Christian Donohue and others.
We still do have an SID, correct?

We will probably get the final roster as we arrive in Surprise. NCAA baseball roster rules are very restrictive, and once the roster is submitted to the NCAA, it takes an act of God to be able to change it. Add in the 27/35 rule and the 25% scholarship minimum for the 27 players and the 11.7 total scholarships and it is amazing that a roster is ever published. Add in the fact that walk-ons who don't make the 35 man can't practice with the team once the final roster is submitted, and one learns that the SID is waiting just like the fans.

There are only two rosters I want to see. The opening game roster, and the opening day roster for the World Series 2018. Go Beavs!

Would love to see reports from practice sessions once in awhile. Some interesting positions up for grabs.

I appreciate the explanation Zeroposter offered for the moldy old roster. It made some sense but I'm still having a difficult time getting my arms around all of that. It raised the question, does the rest of the PAC-12 Conference have a different sense of concerns or even a lack of concern for the barriers outlined by Zeroposter?
Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Stanford, USC, Utah, Arizona, and Arizona State all have 2018 rosters up on their official sites. California has a 2017-18 Fall Roster posted while UCLA and OSU are still playing with 2017 athletes.
I would be disappointed to to grab a program on my way to my seat in Surprise only to see Christian Donohue leading off and KJ Harrison hitting in the 4-Hole.

Pat Casey is about one million times the coach that most of the other schools trot out. This could be a Bill Belichick situation. Casey is already thinking 35 moves ahead, while Jay Johnson is thinking about how to open. Trust Pat Casey!
2. No team has Oregon State's depth. Waiting to put out a roster does not help any other team more than it helps the Beavers.

2. No team has Oregon State's depth. Waiting to put out a roster does not help any other team more than it helps the Beavers. I'm a PC fan, both your points are a bit naive. PC has made his mistakes just like every other coach and although Beaver fans are in love with him and his program there are many many fine coaches out there... he's in the conversation of the best. But, he's not "10 times" better let alone a million than most of the coaches in his "stratosphere". And, there are multitudes of reasons why rosters are not posted. But, OSU is far from so deep and talented vs other elite teams that other teams wait around to see the posted roster. It is no advantage in anyway. Elite teams have elite attitudes. They are all about themselves and worry little about other teams at this time of year. Some 20-25 games in the "true" rosters appear along with actual production for scouting purposes. And that is specific to league teams. UF isn't scouting OSU in Feb... or March... or April.

The easiest explanation is that there are still 38 players vying for 35 roster spots. There are still several players battling injuries; decisions on their status may not come until the last minute (see Kyle Nobach last year).

They released the initial roster last year showing 40. You can still see it, it is the roster in the media guide.

The number of guys vying for spots, or something else? If it's just the 40 vs 38, I assume he was spit-balling the 38 number, and the guess is substantially correct.

It's wrong because that is not the reason the new 2018 roster isn't posted yet. They posted last year's roster before the final 35 was decided.

So what is the reason? Just because the roster was released prior to final cuts last year, doesn't mean they want to do the same thing thing year. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to publish a roster and bios in the media guide, only to have those players be cut? In addition, some uniform #'s changed after final cuts, so those are not accurate in the media guide either.

OK, then I'll stick with the fact that there are still 38 players vying for 35 roster spots, and the reason the roster has not been published is that this year they prefer not to post a roster with players that will not make the team.

I mean, the sun is still going to rise in the morning without a roster.
