It'll be an interesting game at fucla. I'm not sure either coach wants their "big" guarding the other?! Neither matches up well in certain aspects and neither team can afford to be without them.
To me it's not a great matchup in the back court. Fucla excels in turning it over with steals and about 30% of their offense comes off turnovers.
They have Canada that I'm pretty sure no one on the BEAVS can keep her in front. So playing "cushion" D and forcing her to beat you from 3 is the best bet. They are not great from three, we will need to be above average/or our typical this year.
But, their other guards are all 6'1" and athletic. Pressure, dealing with it, will be the game. Well... and like the previous games with them the last couple years... how much the officials let fucla get away with playing hands on/holding.

They are the heavy favorite, playing at home. With one loss on the opening weekend of conference play they need a weekend sweep to stay apace in the conference title race. And looking at OSU and UO they probably think that OSU is the easier assignment. A road win vs UCLA would be gravy for OSU. Not to overlook USC but a split this weekend in LA (just like last year) would be a very acceptable result moving forward.

I agree with you squonk that a split this weekend would be a very acceptable result going forward. The Road is tough, key players are young, and UCLA can run and score in bushels....
Both games will be tough, very tough. If the Beavs win in Pauley I will be totally, absolutely, unbelievably impressed. Coach R might decide that some variation on the 3-2 zone is his best bet - I think it is pretty much agreed that UCLA's perimeter O is stronger than our perimeter D.
This game is our first test against a team with real speed and it will be more than interesting to see how the Girls handle it. Here's hopin'.......GO BEAVS !!!

Completely agree - a split would have to be considered a "good" weekend, given the opponents. I could see UCLA running us out of the gym, and I could see us holding them in check, but more likely the game will be somewhere in the middle......but we sure can't wait to find ourselves in the second half against UCLA. Consulting the game notes, I see we are all time 25-46 against the Bruins, but only 7-26 away, so wins at Pauley are to be treasured almost as much as those at Maples. SR is 7-7 against them, which is a good sign. This game on Friday will give us a really good sense of where the Beavers are at regardless.... Go Beavers!
