I noticed that Teagan Quitoriano and Spencer Webb have not signed. These are some recruits that we were competing for. There are opportunities out there. We were second for Quitoriano. Second = First loser. We were the first loser when he chose to commit, but according to 247 he has not signed yet (it may be wrong). He now has to wait for the late period. We could be the winner when he decides to sign, though unlikely. We lost out to the ucks who have been hemorrhaging recruits, so he could be having second thoughts. I have no inside information.

Our biggest opportunities to add sizzle to the class at this point are with Hall, Crocker and Ta’Zhawn Henry. We have legit shots at each of them and that could legitimize our class. However, to really make the class effective beyond position players, Kevin Hall and Tristan Nichols would provide immediate help on the interior of a swiss cheese 2017 defensive line. Other opportunities are sure to arise before signing day but those five are the biggest priorities. Without a high end QB option it’d be a mistake to force a QB in the class. Yeah, I forgot to mention Ta'Zhawn Henry in the earlier post. Victor Terry is another quality recruit that it looks like we are the favorite for. Did you mean Kevin Scott rather than Kevin Hall? Yeah, Kevin Hall, my bad. Hall and Nichols both took an OV to Corvallis so there’s something to work with. Outside of those guys mentioned in the earlier posts I just don’t see a lot of good uncommitted options. We’ll have to do some poaching and /or wait for guys who verbally committed somewhere else but whose offers get pulled because they didn’t sign in Dec (I’ve heard a lot of discussion of guys getting offers pulled for that reason). That’s our best opportunity for quality pickups. The question is, do CJS or MR (or any other new coaches) have some strong ties to committed but unsigned guys? I think Rivals has Victor Terry listed as a WSU commit? If Cory Hall is hired then we may have a good shot at Eddie Smith out of Louisiana (Treston’s cousin). I was holding out hope until 12/20 that CJS would be able to flip one of the UW QBs but I knew it was a dream. We’ll have to look for transfers or hope one of our existing guys are sufficient until we have time to build a relationship with a 2019 or 2020 QB.

All in all, this class is going to underwhelm for three well publicised primary reasons. Recent lack of success on the field, coaching transition and simply being a lower tier recruiting school. All three can be addressed but it'll take time. The 2019 class should be a substantial improvement on the 2018 version, but 2020 is the year we all need to pray for. That is the year when our coaches should really have their feet on the ground from a recruiting and coaching perspective and in a happy coincidence, according to Andrew Nemec (hate him for being a uck lover/pusher but he does cover in state recruits pretty well), it happens to potentially be the best class of in state recruits ever. That's saying something after the quality of this year's in state class. Smith and Riley will really need to work some relationship magic with the in state high school and 7v7 coaches to set us up to land some of those guys. UO has kicked the crap out of us with in state kids over the last few years for obvious reasons, so winning several in state recruiting battles over the next few years would be evidence of movement in the right direction. Unfortunately those sophomores have grown up in a world where the ucks are a powerhouse and the Beavs are a doormat, so there is a lot of work to do. Thankfully there is some time before those 2020 kids have to make decisions but the relationships have to really be built/strengthened now.
