I admit that I didn’t see LO play except in the semis, but I’ve never seen so many balls dropped on such a good team. Jake practically had to run the ball out and hand it to his receivers. Don’t know if that was an aberration - or maybe he throws a ball that is tougher to track? He threw some ridiculous strikes in that game though. You could tell he is a baseball player with the snap of the wrist on those ropes he threw. He's small, plays poor comp, and doesn't have great stats. Maybe it's in the script for him to make me eat my words, but he's not an inspiring prospect. SP on the other hand is the complete opposite. Both players have a lot of positives and abilities. Imagine if Jonathan Smith and Derek Anderson arrived in the same class. Two completely different players with skill sets that make them stand out. I look at Spencer and Jake as recruits as a win/win.

Maybe it's in the script for him to make me eat my words, but he's not an inspiring prospect. SP on the other hand is the complete opposite. You must not have seen him late in the year, or paid attention to Coury’s assessment. He’s relatively new to the football focus, but grew a ton even this year. He’s got a great arm and really good feet. What I saw was a guy who had pressure nearly every time he dropped back but extended plays, led with authority and threw a beautiful ball. He had a lot drops, and I wondered when I saw him whether his receivers were always this reliable. I’ve seen a lot of great high school QBs in my life, and many of them looked really pretty when they had a nice pocket to throw from and college-bound receivers catching their passes. Many of them fizzled when protection wasn’t there or they didn’t have great weapons around them. Jake clearly had an “it” factor. When I saw them play, maybe his receivers just had a bad day. He may not be a solid PAC 12 QB. His height may be detrimental. For every Russell Wilson or Drew Brees or even Jonathan Smith whose “it” factor pretty much renders lack of height meaningless, there are a dozen who don’t excel due to that issue. I get it, but I think you might be selling Dukart short (couldn’t resist)

Jake obviously more skilled athlete than JS, but Petras is far and away the better QB now and both have upside, however Petras extrapolates to NFL type guy

Assuming Petras’ announcement that he’d arrive early referred to Corvallis, why would he wait to sign? Unless Iowa blew his socks off or bigger fish have started tracking him late, that seems strange. Maybe Nemec has trouble believing someone that good would choose OSU right now. After all, the rating systems would probably automatically add a star if he were committed to one of the big boys, and after gushing about oregon’s All-star recruiting staff, he did say that so far we have no “sexy” or proven strong recruiter on this staff.

Or Nemec is just tossing speculation. Toss enough, he's bound to be right sooner or later.

Good point...! If he still plans to start with us early he should for sure sign at the early signing period. No reason not to. And from my perspective it will be a much better place for a young QB to be able to come and learn, with the new staff.
