With the Yankees acquiring Stanton, and the way the 2017 post-season went, does this spell the end for our favorite Beaver in New York?
The outfield will be crowded with Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks, Aaron Judge, and now Giancarlo Stanton.
The club still owes Ellsbury at least $68 million over the next 3 years, but he's been just average since coming over from Boston.
Maybe the Yanks will try to trade him, but they'll likely have to pay a lot of his salary to any team they trade him to.

according to CBS sports, Yankees are willing to pay half of Ellsbury's remaining contract to move him, but would have to get Jacoby to waive his full no trade clause. he would look good in a Seattle uniform.

No place for him in Seattle with Dee Gordon set to play CF./ I think he's be an upgrade from Denard Span in SF.

Happens all the time - last year Brandon Phillips had rejected multiple proposed trades before accepting a trade to the Braves - the Reds did have to eat almost all of his salary, and got very little back in prospects - but "no trade" clauses are waived fairly regularly.

That is true. But what I've read is that he's dead set against being traded. So, we'll see in a couple of months. Personally, I'd like to see him go to the Giants to mentor Steven Dugger.

As a Reds fan who has been wearing a paper bag over my head, I can state categorically that the Reds would rather lose money on a trade than pay most of their players more than rookie salary. They are banking a lot of coin, keeping one all-star and it is miserable being a Reds fan.

I hope JE gets traded! I don't care to what team he is traded to. I don't want to see him become nothing more than a once a week starter or a glorified pinch-runner for Hankeys. When healthy, he can really be a fun, athletic, exciting player to watch. I just want to see him run...in the field and the on bases, on daily / starting basis. Sorry if that sounds like a little bit of Beaver Bias! Lol

I still believe that given the right team (and the Yankee news compilation site is suggesting SF Giants) and a relatively low injury season that he could have a couple good seasons as a regular. His month of September last year was outstanding; and his early season (pre-injury) was very solid. Yanks would have to pick up at least 50% of his salary. As it stands in NY, he’s not even their “fourth outfielder”. Sad.

Show up, do his work, pick up splinters, and smile all the way to the bank. Just get on the DL again. Maybe have an accident at the ATM.
