One thing I loved hearing was Niner’s emphasis on getting “great teachers” to coach our kids up. That was music to my ears. I have had it with sloppy reads, poor technique on the O-line with laughably weak explosion and inability to sustain blocks, terrible tackling angles, failure to wrap up ballcarriers, etc. We’re starving for fundamentally sound football, and I just get the feeling that JS is going to fill his staff with true teachers.
With the garbage that we’ve seen in this respect in recent history, it’s like we’ll be going from student teacher/teacher in training level to Masters or Doctoral work. That in itself with our current roster would have won us 2 or 3 more games this year, IMHO.
I really want Heyward to be on this staff, but only if he fits that criteria. Great recruiting is awesome, but the ability to coach up what you have is even more so in Corvallis. If KH opts to say “no” should JS approach him with an offer (especially as DC) so be it. I won’t say he’s dead to me at that point, but it would tell me all I need to know about his committment level to OSU if the relative salaries are remotely similar. In the technician department, I know we need Inoke, and hope like crazy he comes to OSU.
