That was a bummer. Came out very tight and unfocused, dropping the first set. Fought back and made it a battle. Lots of uncharacteristic play/mistakes by our stalwarts.... We definitely did not play anywhere near our best, and it showed in the result. Truth be told, something went missing in the last weekend of the season, and we didn't find the mojo in time for this match either. Also, several freshmen starters in their first tourney. Plus the added pressure of playing near their home towns with likely lots and lots of family in attendance that aren't normally at matches.
Kudos to NC State - they reminded me of us with high energy early and playing fast and loose. We were in catch-up mode all night.
Tough that the season has to end in a loss, but what a season it was!!! Lots to look forward to in the coming year with this set of players and coaches.
Go Beavers!

For the sake of argument in regards to mojo:
We were 4-2 during the season in 5 set matches. Our wins were 15-13, 15-13, 15-12, 15-11. Loses were 12-15 and 9-15. Were the losses a lack of mojo? A couple more kills and a couple less errors and we win those 2 matches.
Going into today's match it was two teams with records of 21-11 and 20-11 with the match going 5 sets and the final score 15-13. Followed suit. One more kill, one less error and we win. Just sports.
In addition, I believe one of the toughest things to convince youngsters is the importance of every little detail in a game/match. Coaches that can get that across will have success. I believe Mark is that coach.

"Mojo" might be the wrong term, and you may be right. NCSU seemed like a very talented team, worthy of their record and the win.
That said, the easy-going, fun-loving, play loose approach the Beavers exhibited in spades earlier in the season was absent in this match, and I observed a bit of the same thing last weekend. We were playing uphill a lot of the NCSU game, where our mistakes or slightly off timing or setup was definitely one of the contributing factors. It was an entertaining match between evenly matched teams, and the Beavers acquitted themselves well. But the first set was where things went south - NCSU looked like we usually did this season, and we looked incredibly tight.
I think the team is very well positioned for coming years, and I too believe Mark is the coach to keep things going.
Go Beavers!
