I'm asking this question pretty seriously and not trying to make it a sarcastic "fans complaining about fans" thread. I'm a student and I grew up in Corvallis, so I guess it's "easy" for me to go to every game and cheer my A#$ off for these guys, but it's disappointing to always see a half full (if that) Gill, and a Beaver Dam that's for the most part sitting on their hands all game. WT was able to get the crowd fired up in the last home game against LBSU, but outside of that the atmosphere is often times plain pathetic.
What makes it worse is that it seems like almost every time I turn on the TV to watch another college basketball game, the atmosphere in those games blows ours out of the water, and it's not like they're all games between ranked teams. I'm one of those people who truly does believe that us fans and students who show up, support, and get loud truly can influence a game and help the team, so I'm always going to be front row, center court, loud, and doing my best to support in any way I can. I've even had current players see me on campus and tell me how much they appreciate my individual effort to be there and support them. It just leaves me wondering why there seems to be so few of those people around for our team when other schools seem to have it more figured out.
So with that all being said, what does it take to create that atmosphere again? I wasn't around for the RM days in the 70s and 80s, but I know that Gill can be rocked, and there were glimpses of it in WT's first two years. What needs to change to get more butts in seats, and better yet, more active and engaged butts in seats? Is it something that can be marketed better to encourage fans to be there and be loud? Or is it strictly based off of team performance, ala "I'll cheer when they give me something to cheer about"?
There just seems to be a lack of interest and enthusiasm surrounding men's basketball, which I understand given last year and some of the early season missteps already this year. However, it was just a short season and a half ago that we saw a return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 26 years. It seems like we may have missed the train in a big way to build a lot of momentum off of that.

I need to see players on the floor wearing orange and black.

I do the roadie to Gill virtually every game.....4 seats right over the dam.....yell my ass off too.....lot of invested time when traveling from PDX....I just need to see effort and that's not always the case.....WT seems to be getting his rotation in order, shortening it to compete better, need Kone healthy.....play hard and the crowd will respond......believe.

And they are not really yoked enough to win on talent.

Great question. I’d like to see an actual point guard. Then we could have a coherent offense and be able to get the ball into the hands of the right players at their best spots to succeed. Maybe we wouldn’t suck at three pointers so often

Defense. Moving of feet. Blocking out. Getting thru picks. Closing out on perimeter shooters. You know....EFFORT. It "ain't" sexy. Just effective.

Why don't we just lump it all under... FUNDAMENTAL BASKETBALL 101 THAT YOU PREACH, PRACTICE, REINFORCE, REPEAT FROM 4TH GRADE UP!
Then recruit kids that listen, work hard, learn from their mistakes, listen, work hard... and seem like they care. We have some, but not enough. This team/program seems to have this 5* mentality with 2/3* talent. Not a good combo.

Players listening to their coaches. Common theme in post-game pressers; coaches told us to do X but we didn't, sorry.

What would it take? Put on the orange and black and I’m there, win or lose. Same in football, checkers, or hopscotch as far as rooting for the team goes.
To get Gill jacked up? In the end, you gotta start winning fairly consistantly. In Tinkles 2nd year we were getting there. That team was entertaining and fun to watch. Last year sucked the air out of place.
For me, it’s a 7 hour rountrip to go to a game. If the team is playing like year 2, I’ll make a couple of trips up. Would be much more if I lived in the PDX area. Last year I couldn’t get excited enough to go given the time and cost. Lots of fun things to do in Oregon that don’t involve tons of driving and a hotel room.
I was a student at OSU during 80 and 81 when Gill was insanely jacked up. We often camped out before big games. We could do that again. In the end, it’s about putting a consistently entertaining team on the floor. I have no doubt if we had a top 20 team that Gill could rock again. I like WT, but am not sure yet if he’s going to make it happen or not. Some say he just got lucky with GP II. I think his game management is much better than CR, and I think he’s got some solid guys in the program, but it bothers me that for the second straight year we don’t have a floor general/point guard. I’ll always root for whoever is coaching the Beavers, and really hope Tink can get it done. I give him huge props regardless for what I saw in year 1 and 2. I think there’s tons of time for this year to play out. It’s going to be interesting to see where we are in a month or 2. Hopefull not another dilly dilly pit of misery like football was.

Sounds like it is pretty unanimous. Folks will get behind their team when they see a team worth following.
Right now it is clear we have guys who aren't giving effort and are not doing what their coaches want them to do.
They are lazy on defense and lazy on offense.
Until they wake up at start playing at the level of which they are capable, Gill will stay empty.

The year GPII took us to the tournament Gill was pretty rocking once conference season started. When we have something to cheer for we show up.
Right now the team is undisciplined, under achieving, and does not play an attractive brand of basketball. So I understand why people aren't showing up.
Usually I'll go to a couple games in Corvallis but I'll go 0fer between this year and last year. Going to the Dam City Classic up here if that counts.
