I was a bartender at the Time Out back in the day. Dennis and his staff used to come in on Sunday and drain my supply of Bud in bottles. Good crowd, very reserved, respectful, and generous with their tips.

I'm totally lost, where was the Time Out? I left Corvallis in January of '99, can't remember it unless it was a bar somewhere (Golf City, the Corvallis CC) that I just didn't realize what the name was. I spent a year and a half working in Salem before that and didn't get out much, still don't recall it from earlier.

Riley would be a heck of a QB coach, but I'd think if he were actually coaching under Jonathan it'd be better to put him on the opposite side of the ball. A few months ago someone on the board was talking about Riley and how he knew nothing about defense... I held my tongue about Riley being a D corrdinator at 2 college schools and a D backs coach in both the CFL and the NFL. He'd be a good fit on that side IF he were to be brought in as an actual position coach. I'd really like to see him as an advisor or scout type of position, he can see talent, if that such thing exists at the college level these days. I think DE could also fit in somewhere as an advisor as well since he doesn't want to actively coach. I do think both staying in the background is really a great idea.

Carl's Jr., not BK. Across the street from the old Cannery Mall.

He'd be a great position coach wherever you put him. But I think his best spot is as a QB coach. Look what he did with DA, Canfield, Moore, etc. Dude is a QB whisperer.
Whatever he does, I'll be thrilled if Riley comes back to help in whatever capacity Smith and Riley see fit.

On the corner of 9th and Fillmore (one block segment). Where the Carl's Jr. is presently. Don't recall the name of the place in the 60s/70s - or after 1984 or so. In the little motel? Wasn't that the Thunderbird or something like that in the 80's?
True story, I used to manage the Olga's Ice Cream shop in there when I went to OSU. When I moved to San Diego I kept the keys. At our 10-year HS reunion we went back and sure enough, the new owners never changed the locks. So we ate ice cream. and maybe took a tub or two.
Hopefully the statute of limitations has run out on ice cream theft.

Carl's Jr., not BK. Across the street from the old Cannery Mall. Correct. My error. I frequented that area much more when it was Time Out.

Good crowd, very reserved, respectful, and generous with their tips. I don’t post here much, usually just read. But, since the Time Out came up! Summer after DE was hired at OSU some ‘bros and I hit the ‘Slime out’ for some evening summer beers.. noticed DE was there (with staff) hitting the Lottery Slots. We got giddy.. like, “check it out, there’s Dennis Ericsson drinking a BL, at the lottery machine!”. DE picked up on it. Came over to our table… said “Hello, how are you kids doing?”… shook our hands, we were like.. So which Miami NC ring is that? 1989, or 1991? He was like, “Duh, 1991, the year we were undefeated.” DUH! Much respect to DE. Smith will do great.
