WVB TEXAS connection....
The 3 Beavers receiving All Conference recognition this season are ALL from Texas.... Mary-Kate Marshall, Kylee McLaughlin and Maddie Goings all signed out of Texas High Schools.
Anyone have any insight on this pipeline?? Coach Barnard doesn't seem to have any coaching history in Texas, so maybe one of the Assistant Coaches?? At any rate, I thought it interesting. It also goes to show the importance of recruiting quality athletes from outside your own geographic talent pool....

I think I can shed some light on the Texas link. I had the honor of spending a few minutes talking with Mary-Kate Marshall's dad on Friday night. He told me that Mark ran a camp in Texas 6 years ago and spotted Mary-Kate and recruited her to OSU. He said that Mark then came to Texas every month or so during the club season every year there after and recruited heavily in Texas. He said the Texans love him with his strange accent. He also mentioned that he has established a good reputation in Texas and that Oregon State is a very interesting destination for Texas players. So there you have it!

stevebeav - - this is one of many great things about this board: getting answers about the program that would otherwise be damn near impossible to track down.🤠Thanks for sharing the story....I will say that Coach must have a pretty good eye for Texas talent... All 3 of his recruits have delivered big-time at OSU so they must have had some Texas schools recruiting them...
I missed the recruiting signing info for this year. Any incoming Texans? Thanks again for the info.....

I thought one of the TV announcers during the Civil War match commented on MKM (or one of the other Texas players, but I am pretty sure it was Mary-Kate) that her only D-1 offer from a Texas school was a walk-on offer at TCU, and that has been a big motivator for her as well.....
Did anyone else catch that comment? (Hoping I didn't have a senior moment here and remember something from a basketball game......:-).
Can't hurt that our assistant is a two-time Olympic medalist (including Gold), was MVP of the gold medal team, and was just inducted into the International VB HOF...... And head coach and CoTY Bernard sounds like a cool guy - and a pilot to boot! (Having learned how to fly at Corvallis airport myself, just that facility might keep him in town - gotta love a big time, low traffic, old bomber base in a small town).
Go Beavers!

Heard the same thing. I was surprised. Also surprised that MKM has more attack attempts than Rachel Rourke, MKM should pass Rourke soon on the alltime kills list for top spot. I would have thought that MKM would been more efficient than Rourke as her teams have been more successful.

RR was taller (6-4? 6-5?) and could receive and hit a higher set, enabling her to get the spike over the block more easily.
Barnard has said that MKM has a better all-around game, though. She's a good server and digger.

MK Marshall is tall.... But the other two.... 5'-9" and 5'-10" are the 97th and 99th percentile for American females. I'd consider that tall.

Well in Div 1 volleyball players under 6' are usually not considered tall in the OH and Setting positions. You might be able to get away with it in setting, but really tough as an OH.

I saw a fellow that looked like he could be MKM's dad in the senior day video. If Mary Kate is 6'-1" her dad must be at least 6'-9"
