We have 2 ranked teams currently in #14 USC and the surprising #20 ASU. While we have WSU with a nice record and what initially looked like a nice win over St. Marys at home (maybe the conferences best win of the season? Maybe UCLA over Wisc is better? not much to work with there), and Colorado has a tidy 6-0 record playing against local high schools. But there's been some ugly things going on. Cal is 2-4 with a 24pt loss to Chaminade, Stanford is 3-5 with losses to Portland State and Eastern Washington, and Utah, who was looking pretty decent went an lost to UNLV by 27. Half the conference already has at least 2 losses. It's looking like the Pac will be lucky to sneak in 4 teams this year. Conference play unfortunately isn't going to do much for the RPI (5 teams currently in the triple digits, OSU currently sitting in the two bills range). A lot can still change, but unfortunately a lot of the conference's OOC opportunities have already been missed. We'd better plan to just win the conference to get dancing. Maybe WT can have a chat with Coach Rueck on that, as that's clearly the plan he goes with anyway.

UCLA's two better players are suspended. SC is also very talented and is legit to 15 type. But you're right, prob only 4-5 teams depending on league/tournament champs. Kinda what I said about football... league was down and with the schedule 6 wins totally doable. Ya... Hoops is much the same and of this team can't get to 17 the heat will be on WT from some key supporters as he's really proven nothing without GPII.

Arizona lost 3 straight games....they are not a top 10 team. The may have the potential to be one, but as of now, they are not even close to a top 10 team.
Kentucky has had plenty of "talented" teams that have not even been in the top 10.

I have settled on the fact we have a fundamental flaw that is too much to overcome. We simply have a pair of busts at the guard spots, that cannot consistently shoot or defend. (or pass, or rebound...) BUT, if these guys can turn it around and at least get average, the Pac-12 is ripe for the picking. we can collect some wins for sure. Just gotta fix them guards man.

I wouldn't say ' ripe for the picking' as far as we are concerned. We amy get to middle of the pack if we can sort out the easily identified issues. I, personally, think we should put Reichle at the point. I know he is more of a shooter, but his ball handling and passing skills have been pretty good and, when he does shoot, he isn't way off. He is just not getting enough playing time. I would take him over Stacy, although Stacy amped up his last game versus Marist. They, Marist, could not shoot worth a sh#7 and they were loaded with Europeans, where that is their game.

Let's not worry about the league! The Beavs need to handle their own business! We need max effort on D. They need to get every loose ball...effort plays. They need to make their free throws! AND......quit turning the damn ball over! Ralph Miller is watching from The Gill Afterlife....sitting on a folding chair...at half court...smoking a tipperillo...and screaming WTF are you doing with all that dribbling and crappy passes! (I was there to witness this many times. Especially directed towards a young Eric Knox). LOL

Mediocre is kind. Teams will improve as the season goes on, but yikes. Bad conference.

After that 35 point loss to Arizona, Long Beach St went home and lost by 36 to Fresno. Yowza. Wyoming lost by 10 to the Univ of Denver. Ouch. St Johns is 7-1, so there is that. If OSU took better care of the ball they would be 6-1.

If we can work on ball control and defense, I think we will be able to hold our own in this conference. We have some offensive talent, but not as much as other schools in the conference. We need to get back to tough, hard nosed defense. I would like us try to keep other teams in the 60s and we should win those games.
