I would be very disappointed with anything less than a Beau Baldwin Hire. He is clearly more qualified than this guy

Doesn't scream "blue chip hire" to me... I hope this is all just finalization time for the Baldwin hire. Hate to say it, but I’m guessing that there are no experienced Power 5 guys who are the least interested right now, and probably no self-respecting D1 HCs of note in general. I sure hope that Beau doesn’t say, “no thanks” as well after this circus and the total dumpster fire finale on Saturday. I’ve always been happy about the idea of getting Baldwin as our next coach. He is a good and innovative coach who wants to be here. If the Coug job comes open, I fear we could lose him to WSU. Maybe all that’s left is for the ink to dry on the details, but if we’re talking about getting relegated to perusing assistant coaches (and defensive ones at that) whom we have never even heard of, we could be in serious trouble. I wonder if that search firm gives discounts to clients who can’t fill their vacancies with any legitimate candidate? I want to believe in the people in charge of this event (don’t think I’ll be able to use the word “process” again for a while...it kind of provokes PTSD symptoms for me) but for some reason I’m struggling to find the proper level of confidence in them given what has happened over the last 36 months. This ^^^^

OSULax, seconds ago, I had posted the WSU-Baldwin possibility on a different board. WSU does have the Paul Wulff disaster lurking in the background so there is that concern among WSU fans, and Grinch is pretty popular with the improvement the Coug defense has shown.

Funny we don't hear anything for weeks, then several tweets from Feldman concerning our situation in two days. Either someone from OSU is leaking, or agents are letting this out, trying to drum up interest for their clients.
Tedford never was interested. Don't want another defensive guy, either.

After the football scoop, non scoop, I am adding a metric ass-ton of salt to everything now... I don't think anyone knows anything... Not Feldman, not Eggers, no one. Until Barnes or Ray or the official OSU Athletics twitter says something, I am just going to assume all the rumors are wrong... NOW HURRY UP BARNES WE ARE GETTING ANXIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This ^^^^ From what I understand, Baldwin's contract has an 800 dollar retention bonus if he stays until the 10th of December and OSU doesn't want to match it so they're letting it ride until then. I don't know what I think of the Anderson rumor, it might save some money because OSU would only have to change one character on the typesetting for a lot of their promotional materials. Even with all of Anderson's D1 experience I'm not overly keen on hiring a Defensive Coordinator over someone with Baldwin's program running experience, even if Baldwin's was at a lower level. I guess you could call the benefit of experience for both guys a wash, at which point the interview skills and overall impressions have a larger weight on who gets hired. I hope whoever it is it all takes place in the next 7-8 days. If an announcement isn't made this week, I hold out hope that it's a coach who's involved in a conference championship this coming weekend.

Did I miss something? Don't they already have a coach? Leach's name popped up over the weekend related to both the Arkansas opening and the Tennessee opening. I do think he's one of very few who are crazy enough to head to Knoxville at the moment. But I agree with that notion that, if he left, they'd promote Grinch vs bringing in Baldwin.

Well, fun as long as Oregon State gets a quality guy. Lol.

Who knows what the hang up is. It might not be Baldwin.

Leach personally already shut down the Tennessee move. He did not at the time shut down the A&M or MissSt ones.
Since Cal is done, and retention bonuses typically are paid to extend contacts only with a buyout attached, is think it would have been announced if it wad Baldwin.
If Baldwin has a $800k retention bonus it also most assuredly has stipulations to if he leaves after Dec 10th. Cal athletics is desperately hurting for $, they are not paying a OC $800k who then gets to keep it even if hired away.
PS- if we want to toss rumors...want a real big unsubstantiated rumor on Leach?
He loves the Pac12... not in love with the Palouse... very concerned about budget cuts and new AD hire... doesn't like the Phoenix area... loves being BIG fish, small pond... doesn't mind rebuilds to forge his style... in my mind is a "blue chipper"... 😉
