with whoever gets hired for the first couple of years, as I was with GA but I will say that I'm really nervous if Baldwin is the guy. We are currently struggling with recruiting and having good quality assistant coaches all the way around. Those are my two concerns with Baldwin. So if those come to fruition and you add in his inexperience as an FBS head coach, this could be another dark few years IMO. That worries the hell outta me to be honest!
Then, as I have mentioned, there is the attrition with him coming in. Who stays? Who goes?
My prediction if it's Baldwin (honestly) is 3 years, 4-5 wins (total). And the Dark Ages have officially returned. I hope to hell I'm wrong!
Go Beavs!

Whisky, our historian, can tell you better. But I think we got to four wins only twice during the 28 year period.

That is in line with the dark ages.

Whisky, our historian, can tell you better. But I think we got to four wins only twice during the 28 year period. Oregon State got to five in 1971 and 1998. Between those two, Oregon State got to four wins four times, all between 1988-1994: 1988 (4-6-1), 1989 (4-7-1), 1993 (4-7), and 1994 (4-7). The best season outside of those six was in 1978 (3-7-1). According to the NCAA (which counts the 1977 UCLA and 1979 Arizona State forfeits), between 1971-1998, Oregon State went 67-237-6 (.226), the worst team in NCAA football. If you lop off the two 5-6 seasons that began and ended the streak, Oregon State was 57-225-6 (.208) in between 1972-1997. The meat of the streak, however, was from 1972-1987, when Oregon State went 32-142-3 (.189) and had an on-field record of 30-144-3 (.180), an average of 1.875 wins/yr.

For those worried that Baldwin is the next Paul Wulff, I don't think there's any comparison. Wulff went 53-40 in 8 seasons at EWU, Baldwin went 85-32 in 9 seasons. Wulff had no other coaching experience other than EWU, while Baldwin was head coach at Central Washington for a year, and now a year at Cal. Wulff was never viewed as an innovative offensive mind, whereas Baldwin is.
Regardless, at this point Barnes likely knows all the interested candidates, and either knows that a big name wants the job, or is looking at a few finalists that are not big names. Either way, it is exciting times and can't be any worse of a hire than CGA, although I think I also said that when Avezzano left.
1. Unexpected Miles/Strong/Norvell type "big hire" 2. Tedford 3. Baldwin No thanks: B Jones, J Jones, J Smith, Neuweasel, McElwain, Lake, Grinch

I agree that Baldwin has more upside than Wulff. Tedford is a safe choice. Baldwin could be a Chip Kelly, or he could be a Kragthorpe, though. You never know. On "Let's Make a Deal," he is the cash-in-hand option. Baldwin is whatever is behind door #1.

Somebody who was around and can speak to Kragthorpe: given some resources and the ability to recruit talent, would CDK at least arguably been a lot more successful? We all know damn well what kind of support the AD gave the football program in those days.
