Did any of you catch this thing yesterday?
Q: In your Monday meeting with the team this morning, what did you talk about to keep the players focused for the next two week?
A: (I'm paraphrasing here) I speak facts. You have 12 weeks for four seasons. That's less than a year. You're entertainers. You have an audience, just like Jay-Z. You've put those performers in the position they're in because you're their audience. You only have two more chances to perform. Some guys are feeling bad because of all the momentum they had coming out of the last season beating the Ducks and all that....but you're only as good as your last game. So what is that effort you're going to put forward? But if you're not getting what you need from a coach, now is the time you need to be vocal about it. I'm going to put forth my best, I'm going to demand the best from each coach and teammate. Now, what kind of legacy do these kids want to leave? Some of them some day will have children. Those children will have friends, and the friends of their children will be Cory Hall. Their parents will be Adrian Peterson or Randy Moss. Now you're on this stage and you have this audience, the same audience that you provide these performing artists - what are your kids going to say about you? Adrian Peterson's son or daughter, they're proud of the fact that that's their dad, but you have the same opportunity. You have to take advantage of every opportunity, because you don't want to leave anything behind that you regret. Nobody will remember you for this record. They'll remember you for turning it around and beating Oregon State and beating the Ducks. If you want to play on Sunday, you have to remember actions speak louder than words.
I kind of chuckled at the Adrian Peterson and Randy Moss comparisons. Adrian Peterson was suspended for physically punishing his children, and Randy Moss was jailed as a high schooler for his part in a fight, then had that sentence extended for failing a drug test (marijuana) prior to reporting to jail. He bumped a traffic control officer with his Lexus in 2002 while making an illegal turn against her directions and was accused of violence against a girlfriend in 2008 (charges were dropped at the accusers request).
