nm I spoke to my Dad, who is not a Beaver fan beyond rooting for the college that one of his kids went to, yesterday. One topic of conversation: he wanted to know what actually happened with Andersen leaving. What exactly was the story? I won't get into what I said, which was a tirade against Andersen that is similar to what many people on this board have expressed already, but my Dad said that a lot of the coaches in the Pac 12 were surprised that Andersen left and that many Pac 12 coaches felt that he was improving the program. I told him that I had read that and heard that (I actually listened to Canzano interviews with other Pac 12 coaches who had nothing but positives to say about Andersen) but I had to tell him that I could not believe that it was anything but coach speak. Damn...Andersen crushed this program. It's too bad banishment is not still in use as a penalty. I think Corvallis and OSU would be better off if Andersen never stepped forth in the Willamette Valley again.

I bet Gary is moving his family to Utah. Any rumors to confirm or deny this?
Speaking of coaches in the valley, will be interesting to see if MR returns to Oregon to be near his grandkid (which former player is the dad?).

He has two grandkids, and still owns his house in SW Corvallis. He'll be back.

Probably be tough to find a better ambassador for OSU football than MR. imho
Go Beavs!!

Ambassador, fund raiser, general honorary figure head, he would make a great addition to the AD staff... Just not in a football role at all....

Yes, back in Corvallis for at least part of the year, not back as a coach. Supposedly he still wants to coach. I could see him as an NFL assistant. Hard to go back to a lesser role in college after being the top guy for so long.

He'll be at his SA place part of the year and honestly if the right guy asked in the right situation MR would assist or advise. He doesn't have the ego to have to be in charge.

I don't want him back here coaching, but I'd love to have him reconnect with the university. He did a lot for our program, and we're clearly worse now without him. He's not THAT old, is he? I'm sure he's got some coaching left in him somewhere; wish him nothing but the best.

Hard to go back to a lesser role in college after being the top guy for so long. Erickson went from head coach to co-OC to Assistant Head and Running Backs Coach. I am sure that Oregon State could find a place for Riley. Honestly, I am not so sure that Nebraska has the money to fire Riley. They still owe Pelini $1,792,126. Riley's buyout is currently $6,800,000. (A way better contract than the one that BDC signed with GA.) Still, that is a lot of scratch, even for Nebraska. If Nebraska does pony up the cash to buyout Riley, it would give Oregon State more incentive to hire Riley, because Oregon State could pay him like $250,000/yr. for the first three years and force Nebraska to pay the difference. Riley would certainly be an economical choice in the short term, at least.

I really would like to see Riley come back to the Oregon State fold. Cornhusker Red does not really look good on anyone. He would be an asset to the program. I could see him coaching receivers or something like that. Few people know how to coach receivers better. Give him a break from head coaching but allow him to still interact with players, recruits, and donors. And give the university an individual that could interact with former players and coaches. Riley's coaching contacts are impressive, both in college and in the NFL. There is a reason that Luke Del Rio wound up at Oregon State.
