62 fouls called, 81 free throws shot. game totally chopped up by the whistle. 6 players fouled out, 4 others with 4 fouls.

Absolutely ridiculous. Either over officiating by officials or players not adjusting. I'll go with the former. Both teams not adjusting is unlikely. Only alternative is for everybody to play shoe league (matador) defense.

The Cal game had 50 fouls. I bet a lot of other games were similar. Every year the refs are given new "points of emphasis", and it takes a few games for everyone to adapt. Probably some of those calls were refs taking the new guidelines too far and surely some were just plain blown calls. But mostly it's just the first game of the season for both the refs and the players. This is why we don't start the conference season for another six weeks.

I suspect that it may be a combination of the excitement of the first game and the fact that, athletically, they are so far above the opposition that they are too tempted to try to block every shot and go for every steal. I would bet that the difference in competition with Wyoming will quell those urges.

If you watch NBA the refs are garbage which mean college and HS are just a joke. It seems basketball just has a identity crises or something. Don’t know if it’s a fix but I️ like Cubans idea of 4 refs.

I respectfully disagree. The rules and the "points of emphasis" are always changing. So if you aren't studying the reffing videos, you flat out don't know what a foul is.
I don't know if it's a fix, but I like my idea of making every fan watch the current NCAA coaches rules training video before they are allowed in Gill.
Bonus: Tres is "#3 White" in one of the examples.

I really like the "wide screen" call. Good thing to watch for.

It is still somewhat worrisome to me that SUU (I think they won 6 games last season) dropped 80+ points on us. Yes, I know: First game of the season Ref-aided Not at full strength Just got Tres back etc.
And still that makes me a little nervous. Go Beavers!

Well, considering that Tres and Stevie Jr. rode the pines the last 10 minutes or so, since there was no need to play them, and the amount of official interference in the flow of the game, I was not too disappointed - I did like how Tres and Jr. tried to get back into the game there when they were needed to replace a player who had fouled out.
