Here's what I saw last year: an inexperienced team lost its best player and struggled terribly for lack of depth and talent. By mid-season it was clear that the team would flirt with "worst-ever" status and players were disheartened. But the staff kept the team together, even though game-after-game the team would work hard and be close at halftime, only to run out of steam in the second half and lose. Near the end of the season they upset a 20-win Utah squad, and throughout the season we saw the development of players such as Kendal Manuel and Gligorije Rakocevic - players who were virtually unrecruited - into Pac-level talent.
Were players (and coaches) frustrated at times? Hell, yeah. Losing does that to people. Did Tinkle lose his team? Obviously not. Did he game plan poorly and under-emphasize defense? That's a judgment call, but I suspect the fact that our bigs are a bit foul-prone probably had something to do with Tinkle's strategy. What I saw was a coach who adjusted his strategy to his talent, kept his kids motivated despite the losing, correctly identified potential in unknown recruits, and developed the talent of both his bigs and his guards. It didn't translate to wins last year, but I am excited for what it means for this year.

Skyrider said....Not sure why, but the players most often seem to be doing what they want to do on offense and defense, not what he should be demanding they do.
I remember Tinkle specifically saying upon on hire that if the players worked really hard on defense he would give them freedom on offense. Maybe that was just a year one thing.

Very much looking forward to tonight's game (I do love that my cable package has Pac 12-OR). <great game and opponent analysis elided> Dish only gives me Pac-12 National, and not the Oregon regional channel (though there seem to be spots for it in the channel guide). I had to go sign up for Sling, but at least now I can watch Pac-12 Oregon..... Hard to DVR from Sling, however. Go Beavers!!

Crazy thing is that I live in Columbus, Ohio, so right in the middle of Big 10 country and my cable package gives me all the regional Pac 12 channels, but only one Big Ten Channel. It is easier to watch the Beavers than it is to watch the other team I follow -- Illinois.

I have Frontier FIOS (which allows online viewing of all Pac-12 channels), so I use the Pac-12 app on my phone to get the game after logging in with my Frontier ID. From my phone I then "cast" it to my Google Cast device on my TV. Worked great for the first game.

I can watch ACC games all day every Saturday, but I have to stream, if I want to watch Big Ten or Pac-12 games.

I have Sling but haven't looked into their DVR service yet.
