I didn't get any surprises from today's game.
- Jo should be good for spot duty, giving Marie a blow, but she lacks stamina and plays "slow". She's an asset, but not a game-changer. - Marie, Katie, Kat and Mik all look one notch better than last year. Sure, the competition helped, but they all looked more fluid, more cohesive. The "core four" is good enough to compete for a conference title. - Taya will be the starting "4" by Christmas, if not next week. She's just more athletic and instinctive than Maddy and Janessa. If she turns into the freshman-of-the-year that she might be, this team will get the four-peat. If not, we're still pretty good. - There isn't much drop-off between the starting guards and Taylor, and there will be games where she'll play more minutes than the starters because the matchups work in her favor. I'm anxious to see Aleah, but it's hard to imagine her breaking the starting line-up, as good as they looked today. - The defense is as good as ever. Kat is the new Gabby.
I'm pretty excited, because I think Taya really may be the best freshman we've ever had. It's hard to tell from just this game. She started out a little tentative and out-of-sorts, but she still had a bunch of rebounds, a couple assists, and 10 points while playing less than half of the game. She could be a regular double-double threat, and if so, I think this team will be in the hunt for their fourth conference title.
