While Sunday's exhibition against Concordia University (Portland) doesn't count in the team's official season win-loss record, I'm looking forward to seeing the '17-'18 squad tip off this Sunday at 2 pm at Gill. The Beavs will have games that count in their season record against North Dakota (November 10) and Utah Valley (November 15) at Gill prior to taking on #5 Notre Dame on Sunday, November 19.
Go Beavs!

I am working on the wife to go to the Exhibition game - this year's team is particularly intriguing to me with all of the personnel changes. Depending on how quickly this team "finds itself", it could be an amazing squad, or it could be challenged all season long. Every one of this year's players has questions around them (to go with considerable talent) that I look forward to seeing answered.....
Marie: can she stay on the trajectory she has been on this past 3 seasons? Have we seen her peak, or will we marvel at her continued improvement this season? KTMac: was the 29 point Lamar outburst game 1 last season a harbinger of this season, or were the rest of the games her norm? Mik: looked poised for stardom, does she "break out" this year? MoJo: how does being the #1 JuCo center with Hamblin-esque numbers translate to the Pac-12? Taylor: can her instant offense find enough defense to get major minutes? (I think everyone on this team plays major minutes, but you get my point.....) Taya: how quickly can the wide-eyed, highly ranked frosh become a wily Pac-12 veteran with production befitting her lofty recruiting rankings? Janessa: can she make an Orum-esque jump, and translate that athleticism into a season of needed production? Maddie: every time she touched the ball, something good happened. Can she keep that up for 10 - 20 min/game? Kat: I think her stats will reflect how well we do in the post.....can the great spot-up shooter expand her repertoire and play major minutes? Aleah: was the "steal of the recruiting class" per her AAU coach - can she handle the rock for us, dish, defend *and* be a scoring threat?
The season can't come soon enough!! Go Beavers!

2ndGen---I think you pretty much summed up the situation from a player-to-player perspective.
This time of year always brings anxious apprehension because it is so hard for us fans to believe that the Newbies can truly replace the Talented Veterans who are now long gone....
With the loss of Bre & Kolbie that Beavs take a big hit on the boards and on interior defense; with the loss of Syd & Gabby the Beavs take another big hit on perimeter defence. So much has been made of Syd's offensive prowess that most fans forget she and Gabby gave us two 6 footers with wingspan raising total hell with opposing offences.
For all of these losses to be offset the Beavs MUST get significant improvement from the 3 returning veterans - Marie, KT & Pivec....AND, equally important, they must get more than significant improvement - they need breakthrough improvement - from 2 of the 4 other returnees - Kalmer, Tudor, Washington & Thropay. [Joanne is a wildcard who everyone has pretty much agreed is wait-and-see.]
Finishing in the top 3 this year rides on two of the 4 returnees receiving a collective "Holy Crap has she ever improved. She's gonna be great." If we get 2 breakthroughs we're on our way....
Anyhow, that's how I see it......

IMHO the keys to this season will be: how well Marie G. Adjusts to a leadership role...the emergence of M. Pivec as a All-PAC 12 talent and (probably most important) how quickly Aleah Goodman becomes a factor at point guard. Best case scenario: all 3 of these elements pan out to the max and Beav WBB win PAC 12. Worst case scenario: snotty TSDTR women play to their full potential and become PAC 12 champs.

One of the recent news articles suggested Goodman would be playing shooting guard. I too had been thinking she might be a backup point guard. It was suggested that McWilliams might be playing point guard. If so, I could see either Pivec or Kalmer backing her up (or taking the starting position). I can hardly wait to gain insight from that exhibition game!!

I am also eagerly awaiting this season, this team has no set identity. We know a couple starters but maybe not their positions to start the season, and who knows what changes come during the season.
I think that this is going to be a tough, gritty team. They are physically strong and I hope mentally stronger.
