Those who remember me from pure-orange know that I got into a few political scuffles there over the years.
When the Moderators for this board asked if we wanted I political board, I voted yes.
But now, as time has gone by, I have enjoyed the absence of political wrangling on message boards and every time I see a political post on these boards, I cringe.
I am happy to have changed my opinion. Life on the message boards is a lot more fun without the politics involved.
To the Moderators: If you feel that this message in itself is political, feel free to delete (not that you need me to tell you that).

Can you imagine PO these days? Woe. This forum would most likely devolve into some ugly back and forth. Hell.... it happens discussing football. I miss it.....and I don't.

The Porch from PO would have melted whole banks of computers if it had been around during the 2016 election and the aftermath...no, I like these boards a lot better without it. Too often, that stuff spilled onto the other, non-Porch boards because of The Porch.
I found it entertaining back then, especially to see just how bent people could get, but in the end, life is much calmer without it.

Yes, the porch was toxic. But I think that was the point was to be able to shove any non-sports related junk off the sports boards. I still enjoyed reading it sometimes, and very infrequently posting there. Some members spent a lot of time on that board.

These posts are the reason why we don't have a Porch or Politics board.
"toxic"
"ugly"
"life is much calmer without it"
"spilled onto" the other boards.
There's many other outlets for political discussion these days. I read the Woodshed over on educk occasionally, it's enough to lose my faith in humanity. The bullies take over and it becomes an echo chamber.

Bullies?? There are only two recourses to deal with them: stand your ass up or bend over, relax, and enjoy it. Learned that at an early age in the neighborhood and you would be surprised how chicken$hit a bully typically is.

I actually appreciated and miss the Porch. It was a good place where "normal" people from both sides of the political spectrum could co-mingle, and offer their thoughts based on their real world experiences, instead of the more activist takes from both sides that make up our media sources today. It was easy to filter out the idiotic posts, and I liked being able to hear directly from people from the opposite political spectrum what they were thinking, rather than being told what the other side was thinking by biased media I chose to consume. Our common legacy as Beaver fans meant that there was a baseline measure of respect that you don't normally have from internet strangers (even if it was barely there at times).
I always appreciated how it was a place where the talking points from both sides would meet, and often it was clear which side fell further on the BS meter when they were weighed together (and I appreciated finding myself more on the BS side on quite a few occasions).
Anyway, I'm not saying we need to recreate any such thing here, just lamenting the loss of a rare place where people from both sides stick around and communicate, versus our current political discourse which seems to entail going into random Facebook news stories, throwing a bomb, and walking away.

Yes, it seems like everything these days boils down to you're either a snowflake, sanctuary city, transgender-loving, tree-hugging, "triggered" liberal, or a racist, war-mongering, hate-filled, evangelical zealot. Which kind of leaves the 98% of the rest of us unrepresented (according to the media). SaveSave
