On the official website of Notre Dame they have a run down for their first game. Under the number 3 they list 3 players that won't play. Turner and Johnson due to turn acl's and Shepard due to ncaa transfer policy. This is the first I've heard of it. This isn't a fan based site like Benny's house, this is the real thing. It has also been quoted on McGraw's bench. So I guess the ncaa got one right.
This gives them 8 if the doubtful one can play, otherwise 7!!!!! Can you say "open tryouts?"

Good find bib..... I tracked this down before I read your post........
"Irish players on roster who will not play during the 2017-18 season: Brianna Turner and Mychal Johnson due to ACL injuries & Nebraska junior transfer Jess Shepard due to NCAA transfer policy."
Personally, I'm glad to read this. NCAA & ND would have created a s%#t storm with a right-to-play ruling on behalf of Jess Shepard..... November 19 looking more and more interesting......

Westbeld's injury status had not been updated, at least that I could find. She is still doubtful for the beginning of the season. Even if she can play, I'm not sure how ready she will be. I hope her ankle injury is not exacerbated by coming back to soon.

ND insider has quoted Shepard as saying as of Tuesday afternoon she had not heard anything about the waiver. What that means I'm not sure.

I wonder what the reason for approval was? I guess the almighty nd got their way.
Maybe we should have applied for Destiny.

I will be closely attuned to the NCAA's explanation - - if they provide one... In a nutshell, it will go like this: Nebraska had a toxic social environment in WBB; Jessica got her feelings hurt. Jessica takes off - Notre Dame hits the jackpot.....

While we have dressed up collegiate sports in the garb of "student athletes" and providing educational opportunities to under served communities and fostering alumni and community connections and what have you......at the end of the day, this is a business. And it is (apparently) in the business' best interests to have a powerful ND team in the mix. The rest is all details.
Now if it was Roberto Nelson just trying to get deemed eligible.....
Go Beavers!
