to this point in the season, I'm a little perplexed why so many people are instantly insisting that Coach Hall should be the next head coach of this program. I don't know if it's just the modern day instant gratification or what but man?! I really do like what he has done, especially considering the situation in these last 2 games but..... the reality is, both games were at home. Both games had one opponent that has struggled most of the season in Colorado and the other- Stanford who was missing their Heisman candidate RB with a QB that was struggling to keep the ball out of Oregon State defender's hands! And the Beavs did lose both games! Again, I'm not saying this Beaver team isn't looking better (no matter who they are playing) but the facts are: it's been two games, opponents weren't very good (in those games), both games were still losses, Cory Hall hasn't been a head coach at any level of collegiate football or even a coordinator for that matter. The players are feeding off of emotion and his energy and are probably caught up in all of that, so of course they want him as the new HC but that doesn't mean that he is the answer. You can't just hire a head coach of a power 5, PAC 12 school based on emotion and/or 2 games that the team just looks competitive in!
I'm all in for the new HC keeping him on as an assistant or possibly even a coordinator! He would be the most common sense hold over from this staff in my opinion.

A coach that can be a great motivator can make up for lack of experience in some ways. You either got it as a motivator or you don't, Hall looks as though he's got it, but it's only been two games. He'll have a pretty good audition since he's getting a half a season. |

I really doubt that these 2 games are going to boost Hall to the level of HC just about anywhere beyond the lowest divisions of college ball. Win out in good fashion, suddenly he'll be considered at a lot of places, although we'd be his best bet to offer at the power 5 level. If the new coach isn't Hall, he'd have to find a new job FAST to take recruits with him, assuming we make a good hire our existing class would at least check out who the new coach is. You can't just automatically dismiss any new coach that comes in other than Hall. If we win out and hire a coach from a small school who's had one good year under their belt, I'd be diasppointed. If we hire a guy like Beau Baldwin who's had a decade of success I'd be OK, with that, AND he'd probably bring some good recruits with him. If we could be Baldwin (or an "old guy" who has had a long history of success) AND retain Hill, I'd be thrilled. If we win out in good fashion, I think Hall would probably deserve a shot, but they might have to get creative with his contract to where they aren't promising the world for an unproven coach.

Until named the interim he was not the lead recruiter listed on any of the current commits. And... lol... he's a "hot commodity"? You mind sharing where? A DB coach from this staff named interim after GA leaves, loses two games but team is more exciting/ playing harder is the name on the tip of HC searches? OMFG... |

Now, most of the time when a new coach is named some of the recruits usually look elsewhere. No guarantee they would all stay if Hall is named the coach. Two games hardly makes Hall a hot commodity. Everyone is way overreacting to the last two games. They did lose those games whether it was because of a turnover or not. Yes, the players are playing more inspired but that doesn't automatically say you should hire Hall. I don't think for a minute that Hall has become a hot commodity already as far as being a head coach or him getting an opportunity somewhere else. I will believe it when I see it. I will never say never but Barnes hiring Hall at this time would be a reach. Also, you can't let the players opinions sway who you hire. |

Hall is definitely a hot commodity... as an interview. This could be a heck of an interesting story. Jobwise, he's probably earned himself more options than he had three weeks ago if GA were to be fired or resigned at the end of the season. HC at a major school? I'm not seeing it yet.

Hall vs Jonathan Smith. Neither has been a head coach, which prior threads/posts point out is a 'con' for JS. Cory Hall hasn't been a HC or coordinator, but he gets a pass? CH has done a great job in a bad situation, but is still 0-2 but yes, has the guys playing a helluva lot better than they did for GAG. Hall has been a HC at the HS level (not a real comparison) and will have been a HC for half a season - not much experience, but still more experience than Smith (whom I'd like to see in orange again)... |

Hall gives us the chance to try out a young charismatic coach with almost no risk and little cost. It seems obvious now that most of our problems stemmed from Gary Anderson. The rest of the staff is already on contract, might as well see what they can do.
If we sign a big name coach it's going to cost us at least 3-4 years and a ton of money if he fails.
If coach Hall fails we lose 1 year and no money.
How much money can we put into recruiting and facilities if we sign Hall to a 2 year contract for pennies on the dollar?

By the way, let's say a guy like Jeff Tedford did get this job. Tedford is a former Fresno St player like Hall (there's a connection). That, paired with Tedford's great reputation as a HC and a coordinator, I would think, would keep Hall around on the staff? I'm not sure but I doubt Hall would feel that he would be too good to come back as a position coach, if the right guy gets the HC job here. But I wont pretend to know what Hall thinks and that's just my opinion. Just makes sense to me.

I'm not so sure all our other coaches are under contract. That said, if we win out Hall's a viable candidate who might come cheap. Give him a 4-5 year contract with big incentives and back end loaded with a OSU favorable buyout and make him earn it.
