The Dodgers moved to LA after the 1957 season. Baseball has changed (not for the better) since those days. Now its HRs or strikeouts. Back then very few batters struck out more than they walked now its 3 or 4 K's to a BB. Pitching philosophy has changed also. Back then there were 4 starting pitchers that had 35-40 starts now its 5 or more starters with 25-30. Very complete games and most of the time the starter pitches 5-6 innings. Rosters now have 4-5 bench players and 8 or more relief pitchers. As far as yesterday's game it was very poorly managed especially by the Dodger skipper.

Unless there was something wrong with the starter, there was no real reason to pull him after only 4 innings and 60 pitches. Whatever they saw, they didn't like, but they seemed to be wearing the wrong prescription.

I have followed the Dodgers all season. Hill has typically been excellent for four or five innings, but he is a strike out pitcher and throws a lot of pitches. The pitch count catches up to him, and in the very hot weather I think Roberts felt it was better not to wait until he imploded to make a change. Since the Astros were coming up with five consecutive right-handed batters, it made sense to make the change then, before he imploded. That formula helped LA to the best record in baseball. Why change now?

Why change now? I'm in the "doesn't make sense" camp. 60 was way less than he had been throwing though, even with the relatively short leash on the season. They'd gotten him up into the 80's and 90's plenty on the year. His splits vs righties have been actually much better than vs lefties. So for me, a little over-thinking it by Roberts, but like you said- they have the best record in baseball for a reason and a lot of that was Roberts playing hunches, going with what he thought was the hot hand, etc, and it's worked plenty. So it goes.. All things equal, I'd rather have Hill in the 5th and 6th vs being forced to use their middle guys like Stripling or Baez. Thankfully Baez isn't on the WS roster or I would have no hair left as of today. also - Rich Hill's leg whip is one of my favorite things in baseball.

To show how much I keep up with MLB I was saying "WTH" when I just realized a few weeks ago that the Astros had moved to the American League. I had to Google it and found out that it happened around 2013. Who knew? Not me!!
That said I am rooting for them mainly because I pretty much hate everything "LA". I did not even much care for the movie LaLa Land. LOL

Well now, it's game seven and guess who is dressed in ORANGE! Go Astros!

How about them Astros! The series just got real interesting heading back to Houston tied 1-1. Crazy number of long balls hit last night. Dodger boy is a little sad today - but man, what a fun, great game overall. Had a little bit of everything. My wife and I were at game 2, great game, but Roberts made a couple of managing mistakes as he did again in game 5. The game we saw 7-6 Astros in 11 was one of the best games in series history, only to be surpassed by game 5... in Houston!
