It is a Danny Moran story, it is on the O site, quick google away if you want to see for yourself.
Long story short, a report issued said there is no evidence Gill deliberately segregated his team, and there IS evidence he attempted to recruit black players on several occasions. There is evidence recruiting black players to Corvallis and the PNW was very difficult at the time for large number of reasons.
I believe with this report, Ray is gonna give a big fat thumbs down to renaming Gill. Other buildings are up for debate.
Hopefully we can move past this pervasive "faux outrage" era we are in. I blame social media.

My favorite part of the official report was this line: Evidence of rumors.....sounds like grounds for taking a name off a building to me!

Please, let's move on with life, this is a PC witch hunt that is going on all over the country, it's politically driven and a boon to social media, as was mentioned, done!!

Face it, Oregon and sticksville Corvallis, were not comfortable places to be if you were not white back then. I don't think anyone can get a clear perspective on just what it was like around here in the 40's and 50's and even the 60's.

My favorite part of the official report was this line: Evidence of rumors.....sounds like grounds for taking a name off a building to me! But they didn’t take his name off the building. I’m glad they went through this process. This is a University. And you’re not much of a student of history if you think that rumors have not played a consequential role in many historical events. Generally to our detriment. And that’s precisely why these exercises are VALUABLE. To separate fact from rumor so we can act on the facts.

That's exactly my point - those demanding the name be taken off the building (that is how this started, correct? With a demand?) seemed to be operating on rumors and circumstantial "evidence" rather than any actual fact. I too applaud the university for the process they have taken to review the name of Gill Coliseum and the other buildings in question.

Ive not delved too deep into this subject but I don't recall any demands. Can you provide a link?
